Let p and $\ell $ be primes such that $p> 3$ and $p \mid \ell -1$ and k be an even integer. We use deformation theory of pseudo-representations to study the completion of the Hecke algebra acting on the space of cuspidal modular forms of weight k and level $\Gamma _0(\ell )$ at the maximal Eisenstein ideal containing p. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the $\mathbb {Z}_p$-rank of this Hecke algebra to be greater than $1$ in terms of vanishing of the cup products of certain global Galois cohomology classes. We also recover some of the results proven by Wake and Wang-Erickson for $k=2$ using our methods. In addition, we prove some $R=\mathbb {T}$ theorems under certain hypotheses.

We compare the $K$-theory stable bases of the Springer resolution associated to different affine Weyl alcoves. We prove that (up to relabelling) the change of alcoves operators are given by the Demazure–Lusztig operators in the affine Hecke algebra. We then show that these bases are categorified by the Verma modules of the Lie algebra, under the localization of Lie algebras in positive characteristic of Bezrukavnikov, Mirković, and Rumynin. As an application, we prove that the wall-crossing matrices of the $K$-theory stable bases coincide with the monodromy matrices of the quantum cohomology of the Springer resolution.

For a Coxeter system and a representation $V$ of this Coxeter system, Soergel defined a category which is now called the category of Soergel bimodules and proved that this gives a categorification of the Hecke algebra when $V$ is reflection faithful. Elias and Williamson defined another category when $V$ is not reflection faithful and proved that this category is equivalent to the category of Soergel bimodules when $V$ is reflection faithful. Moreover, they proved the categorification theorem for their category with fewer assumptions on $V$. In this paper, we give a bimodule description of the Elias–Williamson category and re-prove the categorification theorem.

We introduce and study various categories of (equivariant) motives of (versal) flag varieties. We relate these categories with certain categories of parabolic (Demazure) modules. We show that the motivic decomposition type of a versal flag variety depends on the direct sum decomposition type of the parabolic module. To do this we use localization techniques of Kostant and Kumar in the context of generalized oriented cohomology as well as the Rost nilpotence principle for algebraic cobordism and its generic version. As an application, we obtain new proofs and examples of indecomposable Chow motives of versal flag varieties.

We study genuine local Hecke algebras of the Iwahori type of the double cover of $\operatorname{SL}_{2}(\mathbb{Q}_{p})$ and translate the generators and relations to classical operators on the space $S_{k+1/2}(\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E4}_{0}(4M))$, $M$ odd and square-free. In [9] Manickam, Ramakrishnan, and Vasudevan defined the new space of $S_{k+1/2}(\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E4}_{0}(4M))$ that maps Hecke isomorphically onto the space of newforms of $S_{2k}(\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E4}_{0}(2M))$. We characterize this newspace as a common $-1$-eigenspace of a certain pair of conjugate operators that come from local Hecke algebras. We use the classical Hecke operators and relations that we obtain to give a new proof of the results in [9] and to prove our characterization result.

We classify tame block algebras of Hecke algebras of classical type over an algebraically closed field of characteristic not equal to two.

We study the equivariant oriented cohomology ring $\mathtt{h}_{T}(G/P)$ of partial flag varieties using the moment map approach. We define the right Hecke action on this cohomology ring, and then prove that the respective Bott–Samelson classes in $\mathtt{h}_{T}(G/P)$ can be obtained by applying this action to the fundamental class of the identity point, hence generalizing previously known results of Chow groups by Brion, Knutson, Peterson, Tymoczko and others. Our main result concerns the equivariant oriented cohomology theory $\mathfrak{h}$ corresponding to the 2-parameter Todd genus. We give a new interpretation of Deodhar’s parabolic Kazhdan–Lusztig basis, i.e., we realize it as some cohomology classes (the parabolic Kazhdan–Lusztig (KL) Schubert classes) in $\mathfrak{h}_{T}(G/P)$. We make a positivity conjecture, and a conjecture about the relationship of such classes with smoothness of Schubert varieties. We also prove the latter in several special cases.

We prove, under some assumptions, a Greenberg type equality relating the characteristic power series of the Selmer groups over $\mathbb{Q}$ of higher symmetric powers of the Galois representation associated to a Hida family and congruence ideals associated to (different) higher symmetric powers of that Hida family. We use $R=T$ theorems and a sort of induction based on branching laws for adjoint representations. This method also applies to other Langlands transfers, like the transfer from $\text{GSp}(4)$ to $U(4)$. In that case we obtain a corollary for abelian surfaces.

For an optimal modular parametrization $J_{0}(n){\twoheadrightarrow}E$ of an elliptic curve $E$ over $\mathbb{Q}$ of conductor $n$, Manin conjectured the agreement of two natural $\mathbb{Z}$-lattices in the $\mathbb{Q}$-vector space $H^{0}(E,\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FA}^{1})$. Multiple authors generalized his conjecture to higher-dimensional newform quotients. We prove the Manin conjecture for semistable $E$, give counterexamples to all the proposed generalizations, and prove several semistable special cases of these generalizations. The proofs establish general relations between the integral $p$-adic étale and de Rham cohomologies of abelian varieties over $p$-adic fields and exhibit a new exactness result for Néron models.

We give a diagrammatic presentation for the category of Soergel bimodules for the dihedral group $W$. The (two-colored) Temperley–Lieb category is embedded inside this category as the degree $0$ morphisms between color-alternating objects. The indecomposable Soergel bimodules are the images of Jones–Wenzl projectors. When $W$ is infinite, the parameter $q$ of the Temperley–Lieb algebra may be generic, yielding a quantum version of the geometric Satake equivalence for $\mathfrak{sl}_{2}$. When $W$ is finite, $q$ must be specialized to an appropriate root of unity, and the negligible Jones–Wenzl projector yields the Soergel bimodule for the longest element of $W$.

Let $F$ be a non-Archimedean local field, and let $G^{\sharp }$ be the group of $F$-rational points of an inner form of $\text{SL}_{n}$. We study Hecke algebras for all Bernstein components of $G^{\sharp }$, via restriction from an inner form $G$ of $\text{GL}_{n}(F)$.

For any packet of L-indistinguishable Bernstein components, we exhibit an explicit algebra whose module category is equivalent to the associated category of complex smooth $G^{\sharp }$-representations. This algebra comes from an idempotent in the full Hecke algebra of $G^{\sharp }$, and the idempotent is derived from a type for $G$. We show that the Hecke algebras for Bernstein components of $G^{\sharp }$ are similar to affine Hecke algebras of type $A$, yet in many cases are not Morita equivalent to any crossed product of an affine Hecke algebra with a finite group.

Let $p\geqslant 5$ be a prime. If an irreducible component of the spectrum of the ‘big’ ordinary Hecke algebra does not have complex multiplication, under mild assumptions, we prove that the image of its Galois representation contains, up to finite error, a principal congruence subgroup ${\rm\Gamma}(L)$ of $\text{SL}_{2}(\mathbb{Z}_{p}[[T]])$ for a principal ideal $(L)\neq 0$ of $\mathbb{Z}_{p}[[T]]$ for the canonical ‘weight’ variable $t=1+T$. If $L\notin {\rm\Lambda}^{\times }$, the power series $L$ is proven to be a factor of the Kubota–Leopoldt $p$-adic $L$-function or of the square of the anticyclotomic Katz $p$-adic $L$-function or a power of $(t^{p^{m}}-1)$.

This note proves Cellini’s conjecture that, in a Coxeter system (W,S) with reflections T, the T-increasing paths in W are self-avoiding. Here, a T-increasing path is a sequence v,t1v,…,tn⋯t1v in W with ti∈T and t1≺⋯≺tn in a reflection order ⪯ of T.

We introduce quasi-invariant polynomials for an arbitrary finite complex reflection group W. Unlike in the Coxeter case, the space of quasi-invariants of a given multiplicity is not, in general, an algebra but a module Qk over the coordinate ring of a (singular) affine variety Xk. We extend the main results of Berest et al. [Cherednik algebras and differential operators on quasi-invariants, Duke Math. J. 118 (2003), 279–337] to this setting: in particular, we show that the variety Xk and the module Qk are Cohen–Macaulay, and the rings of differential operators on Xk and Qk are simple rings, Morita equivalent to the Weyl algebra An(ℂ) , where n=dim Xk. Our approach relies on representation theory of complex Cherednik algebras introduced by Dunkl and Opdam [Dunkl operators for complex reflection groups, Proc. London Math. Soc. (3) 86 (2003), 70–108] and is parallel to that of Berest et al. As an application, we prove the existence of shift operators for an arbitrary complex reflection group, confirming a conjecture of Dunkl and Opdam. Another result is a proof of a conjecture of Opdam, concerning certain operations (KZ twists) on the set of irreducible representations of W.

We analyse Hecke pairs (G,H) and the associated Hecke algebra when G is a semi-direct product N ⋊ Q and H = M ⋊ R for subgroups M ⊂ N and R ⊂ Q with M normal in N. Our main result shows that, when (G,H) coincides with its Schlichting completion and R is normal in Q, the closure of in C*(G) is Morita–Rieffel equivalent to a crossed product I⋊βQ/R, where I is a certain ideal in the fixed-point algebra C*(N)R. Several concrete examples are given illustrating and applying our techniques, including some involving subgroups of GL(2,K) acting on K2, where K = ℚ or K = ℤ[p−1]. In particular we look at the ax + b group of a quadratic extension of K.

The Hecke algebra of a Hecke pair (G, H) is studied using the Schlichting completion (Ḡ, ), which is a Hecke pair whose Hecke algebra is isomorphic to and which is topologized so that is a compact open subgroup of Ḡ. In particular, the representation theory and C*-completions of are addressed in terms of the projection using both Fell's and Rieffel's imprimitivity theorems and the identity . An extended analysis of the case where H is contained in a normal subgroup of G (and in particular the case where G is a semi-direct product) is carried out, and several specific examples are analysed using this approach.

Let $F$ be a non-archimedean local field of residue characteristic neither 2 nor 3 equipped with a galois involution with fixed field ${{F}_{0}}$, and let $G$ be a symplectic group over $F$ or an unramified unitary group over ${{F}_{0}}$. Following the methods of Bushnell–Kutzko for $\text{GL}(N,F)$, we define an analogue of a simple type attached to a certain skew simple stratum, and realize a type in $G$. In particular, we obtain an irreducible supercuspidal representation of $G$ like $\text{GL}(N,F)$.

Let $F$ be a non-Archimedean local field. In an earlier paper, we constructed certain types (in the sense of Bushnell and Kutzko) in $SL_n (F)$, in fact enough to describe the non-supercuspidal components of the Bernstein decomposition of this group. We now give an almost fully explicit presentation of the Hecke algebras of these types.

We prove the existence of an involution on double affine Hecke algebras. This involution plays a central role in the theory of Macdonald polynomials, being responsible for a Fourier type duality and allowing the construction of affine intertwiners.
