In this paper, we prove the existence and uniqueness of a positive solution for a nonlocal logistic equation arising from the birth-jump processes. For this, we establish a sub-super solution method for nonlocal elliptic equations, we perform a study of the eigenvalue problems associated with these equations and we apply these results to the nonlocal logistic equation.

In this paper, we study a class of Brezis–Nirenberg problems for nonlocal systems, involving the fractional Laplacian $(-\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E5})^{s}$ operator, for $0<s<1$, posed on settings in which Sobolev trace embedding is noncompact. We prove the existence of infinitely many solutions in large dimension, namely when $N>6s$, by employing critical point theory and concentration estimates.

In this paper we obtain the local Hölder regularity of the gradients of weak solutions for a class of non-uniformly nonlinear variable exponent elliptic equations in divergence form

We study global solution curves and prove the existence of infinitely many positive solutions for three classes of self-similar equations with p-Laplace operator. In the p = 2 case these are well-known problems involving the Gelfand equation, the equation modelling electrostatic micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS), and a polynomial nonlinearity. We extend the classical results of Joseph and Lundgren to the case in which p ≠ 2, and we generalize the main result of Guo and Wei on the equation modelling MEMS.

Positive solutions of a Kirchhoff-type nonlinear elliptic equation with a non-local integral term on a bounded domain in ℝN, N ⩾ 1, are studied by using bifurcation theory. The parameter regions of existence, non-existence and uniqueness of positive solutions are characterized by the eigenvalues of a linear eigenvalue problem and a nonlinear eigenvalue problem. Local and global bifurcation diagrams of positive solutions for various parameter regions are obtained.

Let n ≥ 2 and let be a Lipschitz wedge-like domain. We construct positive weak solutions of the problem

that vanish in a suitable trace sense on ∂Ω, but which are singular at a prescribed ‘edge’ of Ω if p is equal to or slightly above a certain exponent p0 > 1 that depends on Ω. Moreover, for the case in which Ω is unbounded, the solutions have fast decay at infinity.

We consider a quasilinear elliptic problem of the form

where λ > 0 is a parameter, 1 < p < 2 and Ω is a strictly convex bounded domain in ℝN, N > p, with C2 boundary ∂Ω. The nonlinearity f : [0, ∞) → ℝ is a continuous function that is semipositone (f(0) < 0) and p-superlinear at infinity. Using degree theory, combined with a rescaling argument and uniform L∞a priori bound, we establish the existence of a positive solution for λ small. Moreover, we show that there exists a connected component of positive solutions bifurcating from infinity at λ = 0. We also extend our study to systems.

We study the existence of non-trivial solutions for a class of asymptotically periodic semilinear Schrödinger equations in ℝN. By combining variational methods and the concentration-compactness principle, we obtain a non-trivial solution for the asymptotically periodic case and a ground state solution for the periodic one. In the proofs we apply the mountain pass theorem and its local version.

In this paper, we study a time-independent fractional Schrödinger equation of the form (−Δ)su + V(x)u = g(u) in ℝN, where N ≥, s ∈ (0,1) and (−Δ)s is the fractional Laplacian. By variational methods, we prove the existence of ground state solutions when V is unbounded and the nonlinearity g is subcritical and satisfies the following geometry condition:

The aim of this paper is to prove the existence of a positive solution for a quasi-linear elliptic problem involving the (p, q)-Laplacian and a convection term, which means an expression that is not in the principal part and depends on the solution and its gradient. The solution is constructed through an approximating process based on gradient bounds and regularity up to the boundary. The positivity of the solution is shown by applying a new comparison principle, which is established here.

In this paper quasilinear elliptic boundary value equations without an Ambrosetti and Rabinowitz growth condition are considered. Existence of a non-trivial solution result is established. For this, we show the existence of a Cerami sequence by using a variant of the mountain-pass theorem due to Schechter. The novelty here is that we may consider nonlinearities that satisfy a local p-superlinear condition and may change sign.

We consider a class of critical quasilinear problems

where 0 ∈ Ω ⊂ ℝN, N ≥ 3, is a bounded domain and 1 < p < N, a < N/p, a ≤ b < a + 1, λ is a positive parameter, 0 ≤ μ < ≡ ((N − p)/p − a)p, q = q*(a, b) ≡ Np/[N − pd] and d ≡ a+1 − b. Infinitely many small solutions are obtained by using a version of the symmetric Mountain Pass Theorem and a variant of the concentration-compactness principle. We deal with a problem that extends some results involving singularities not only in the nonlinearities but also in the operator.

We consider the existence and multiplicity of standing-wave solutions

of nonlinear Schrödinger equations with electromagnetic fields and critical nonlinearity

Under suitable assumptions, we prove that it has at least one solution and that, for any m ∈ ℕ, it has at least m pairs of solutions.

We deal with existence and uniqueness of the solution to the fully nonlinear equation

−F(D2u) + |u|s−1u = f(x) in ℝn,

where s > 1 and f satisfies only local integrability conditions. This result is well known when, instead of the fully nonlinear elliptic operator F, the Laplacian or a divergence-form operator is considered. Our existence results use the Alexandroff-Bakelman-Pucci inequality since we cannot use any variational formulation. For radially symmetric f, and in the particular case where F is a maximal Pucci operator, we can prove our results under fewer integrability assumptions, taking advantage of an appropriate variational formulation. We also obtain an existence result with boundary blow-up in smooth domains.

Let Ω ⊂ ℝN be a bounded domain such that 0 ∈ Ω, N ≥ 3, 2*(s) = 2(N − s)/(N − 2), 0 ≤ s < 2, . We obtain the existence of infinitely many solutions for the singular critical problem with Dirichlet boundary condition for suitable positive number λ.

The paper deals with problems of the type $-\Delta u+a(x)u=|u|^{p-2}u$, $u\gt0$, with zero Dirichlet boundary condition on unbounded domains in $\mathbb{R}^N$, $N\geq2$, with $a(x)\geq c\gt0$, $p\gt2$ and $p\lt2N/(N-2)$ if $N\geq3$. The lack of compactness in the problem, related to the unboundedness of the domain, is analysed. Moreover, if the potential $a(x)$ has $k$ suitable ‘bumps’ and the domain has $h$ suitable ‘holes’, it is proved that the problem has at least $2(h+k)$ positive solutions ($h$ or $k$ can be zero). The multiplicity results are obtained under a geometric assumption on $\varOmega$ at infinity which ensures the validity of a local Palais–Smale condition.

In this paper we study the existence and nonexistence of multiple positive solutions for the Dirichlet problem:
