We introduce the concept of ‘irrational paths’ for a given subshift and useit to characterize all minimal left ideals in the associated unital subshift algebra. Consequently, we characterize the socle as the sum of the ideals generated by irrational paths. Proceeding, we construct a graph such that the Leavitt path algebra of this graph is graded isomorphic to the socle. This realization allows us to show that the graded structure of the socle serves as an invariant for the conjugacy of Ott–Tomforde–Willis subshifts and for the isometric conjugacy of subshifts constructed with the product topology. Additionally, we establish that the socle of the unital subshift algebra is contained in the socle of the corresponding unital subshift C*-algebra.
For classical Lie superalgebras of type I, we provide necessary and sufficient conditions for a Verma supermodule
$\Delta (\lambda )$
to be such that every nonzero homomorphism from another Verma supermodule to
$\Delta (\lambda )$
is injective. This is applied to describe the socle of the cokernel of an inclusion of Verma supermodules over the periplectic Lie superalgebras
$\mathfrak {pe} (n)$
and, furthermore, to reduce the problem of description of
$\mathrm {Ext}^1_{\mathcal O}(L(\mu ),\Delta (\lambda ))$
for
$\mathfrak {pe} (n)$
to the similar problem for the Lie algebra
$\mathfrak {gl}(n)$
. Additionally, we study the projective and injective dimensions of structural supermodules in parabolic category
$\mathcal O^{\mathfrak {p}}$
for classical Lie superalgebras. In particular, we completely determine these dimensions for structural supermodules over the periplectic Lie superalgebra
$\mathfrak {pe} (n)$
and the orthosymplectic Lie superalgebra
$\mathfrak {osp}(2|2n)$
.
Let ${\mathcal{A}}$ be a semisimple Banach algebra with minimal left ideals and $\text{soc}({\mathcal{A}})$ be the socle of ${\mathcal{A}}$. We prove that if $\text{soc}({\mathcal{A}})$ is an essential ideal of ${\mathcal{A}}$, then every 2-local derivation on ${\mathcal{A}}$ is a derivation. As applications of this result, we can easily show that every 2-local derivation on some algebras, such as semisimple modular annihilator Banach algebras, strongly double triangle subspace lattice algebras and ${\mathcal{J}}$-subspace lattice algebras, is a derivation.
The face ring of a homology manifold (without boundary) modulo a generic system of parameters is studied. Its socle is computed and it is verified that a particular quotient of this ring is Gorenstein. This fact is used to prove that the algebraic g-conjecture for spheres implies all enumerative consequences of its far-reaching generalization (due to Kalai) to manifolds. A special case of Kalai’s conjecture is established for homology manifolds that have a codimension-two face whose link contains many vertices.
If (V, 0) is an isolated complete intersection singularity and X a holomorphic vector field tangent to V, one can define an index of X, the so-called GSV index, which generalizes the Poincaré–Hopf index. We prove that the GSV index coincides with the dimension of a certain explicitly constructed vector space, if X is deformable in a certain sense and V is a curve. We also give a sufficient algebraic criterion for X to be deformable in this way. If one considers the real analytic case one can also define an index of X which is called the real GSV index. Under the condition that X has the deformation property, we prove a signature formula for the index generalizing the Eisenbud–Levine Theorem.
A non-zero module M having a minimal generator set contains a maximal submodule. If M is Artinian and all submodules of M have minimal generator sets then M is Noetherian; it follows that every left Artinian module of a left perfect ring is Noetherian. Every right Noetherian module of a left perfect ring is Artinian. It follows that a module over a left and right perfect ring (in particular, commutative) is Artinian if and only if it is Noetherian. We prove that a local ring is left perfect if and only if each left module has a minimal generator set.
