Let C be a smooth irreducible complete curve of genus g ≥ 2 over an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0. An ample K3 extension of C is a K3 surface with at worst rational double points which contains C in the smooth locus as an ample divisor.

In this paper, we prove that all smooth curve of genera. 2 ≤ g ≤ 8 have ample K3 extensions. We use Bertini type lemmas and double coverings to construct ample K3 extensions.

Let χ be a nontrivial Hecke character on a (strict) ray class group of a totally real number field L of discriminant dL. Then, L(0, χ) is an algebraic number of some cyclotomic number field. We develop an efficient technique for computing the exact values at s = 0 of such abelian Hecke L-functions over totally real number fields L. Let fχ denote the norm of the finite part of the conductor of χ. Then, roughly speaking, we can compute L(0, χ) in O((dLfx)0.5+∊) elementary operations. We then explain how the computation of relative class numbers of CM-fields boils down to the computation of exact values at s = 0 of such abelian Hecke L-functions over totally real number fields L. Finally, we give examples of relative class number computations for CM-fields of large degrees based on computations of L(0, χ) over totally real number fields of degree 2 and 6.

The main result is a general vanishing theorem for the Dolbeault cohomology of an ample vector bundle obtained as a tensor product of exterior powers of some vector bundles. It is also shown that the conditions for the vanishing given by this theorem are optimal for some parameter values.

The infinite symmetric group is the discrete group of all finite permutations of the set X of all natural numbers. Among discrete groups, it has distinctive features from the viewpoint of representation theory and harmonic analysis. First, it is one of the most typical ICC-groups as well as free groups and known to be a group of non-type I. Secondly, it is a locally finite group, namely, the inductive limit of usual symmetric groups . Furthermore it is contained in infinite dimensional classical groups GL(ξ), O(ξ) and U(ξ) and their representation theories are related each other.

Let $Y$ be a compact complex manifold embedded in a complex manifold with unitary flat normal bundle. Our interest is in a sort of the linearizability problem of a neighborhood of $Y$. As a higher codimensional generalization of Ueda’s result, we give a sufficient condition for the existence of a nonsingular holomorphic foliation on a neighborhood of $Y$ which includes $Y$ as a leaf with unitary-linear holonomy. We apply this result to the existence problem of a smooth Hermitian metric with semipositive curvature on a nef line bundle.

This paper is one step toward infinite energy gauge theory and the geometry of infinite dimensional moduli spaces. We generalize a gluing construction in the usual Yang-Mills gauge theory to an “infinite energy” situation. We show that we can glue an infinite number of instantons, and that the resulting ASD connections have infinite energy in general. Moreover they have an infinite dimensional parameter space. Our construction is a generalization of Donaldson’s “alternating method”.

The first part of the paper is concerned, among other things, with a characterization of filter regular sequences in terms of modules of generalized fractions. This characterization leads to a description, in terms of generalized fractions, of the structure of an arbitrary local cohomology module of a finitely generated module over a notherian ring. In the second part of the paper, we establish homomorphisms between the homology modules of a Koszul complex and the homology modules of a certain complex of modules of generalized fractions. Using these homomorphisms, we obtain a characterization of unconditioned strong d-sequences.

We give an upper bound for the volume $\text{Vol}(X,\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E5})=(-(K_{X}+\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E5}))^{n}$ when $n=2$, or $n=3$ and $X$ is $\mathbb{Q}$-factorial of $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70C}(X)=1$. This bound is essentially sharp for $n=2$. The main idea is to analyze the covering families of tigers constructed in J. McKernan (Boundedness of log terminal fano pairs of bounded index, preprint, 2002, arXiv:0205214). Existence of an upper bound for volumes is related to the Borisov–Alexeev–Borisov Conjecture, which asserts boundedness of the set of $\unicode[STIX]{x1D716}$-klt log $\mathbb{Q}$-Fano varieties of a given dimension $n$.

The group G acts as an automorphism group on and on its complement = (X,Γ).

Quantum Markov chain introduced by Accardi (cf. [1,2,3]) is one of natural generalization of classical Markov chain. It has many interesting applications in physics and the most important one is given by the paper of Fannes-Nachtergaele-Werner ([4]), where an application of quantum Markov chain’s technique enables us to understand the Valence bond states well.

Varieties fibered into del Pezzo surfaces form a class of possible outputs of the minimal model program. It is known that del Pezzo fibrations of degrees $1$ and $2$ over the projective line with smooth total space satisfying the so-called $K^2$ -condition are birationally rigid: their Mori fiber space structure is unique. This implies that they are not birational to any Fano varieties, conic bundles, or other del Pezzo fibrations. In particular, they are irrational. The families of del Pezzo fibrations with smooth total space of degree $2$ are rather special, as for most families a general del Pezzo fibration has the simplest orbifold singularities. We prove that orbifold del Pezzo fibrations of degree $2$ over the projective line satisfying explicit generality conditions as well as a generalized $K^2$ -condition are birationally rigid.

We show that the cyclic and epicyclic categories which play a key role in the encoding of cyclic homology and the lambda operations, are obtained from projective geometry in characteristic one over the infinite semifield of max-plus integers ℤmax. Finite-dimensional vector spaces are replaced by modules defined by restriction of scalars from the one-dimensional free module, using the Frobenius endomorphisms of ℤmax. The associated projective spaces are finite and provide a mathematically consistent interpretation of Tits's original idea of a geometry over the absolute point. The self-duality of the cyclic category and the cyclic descent number of permutations both acquire a geometric meaning.

The formal moduli for one-parameter formal Lie groups was constructed by Lubin and Tate (1) by using Lazard’s methods. The aime of this paper is to prove the existence of the formal moduli for higher dimensional formal groups.

The theory of mathematical objects, developed in this work, is a trial system intended to be a prototype of set theory. It concerns, with respect to the only one primitive notion “proto-membership”, with a field of mathematical objects which we shall hereafter simply call objects, it is a very simple system, because it assumes only one axiom scheme which is formally similar to the aussonderung axiom of set theory. We shall show that in our object theory we can construct a theory of sets which is stronger than the Zermelo set-theory [1] without the axiom of choice.
