In this paper, we investigate the asymptotic distribution of a class of multiplicative functions over arithmetic progressions without the Ramanujan conjecture. We also apply these results to some interesting arithmetic functions in automorphic context, such as coefficients of automorphic L-functions, coefficients of their Rankin–Selberg.

We study some analytic properties of the Asai lifts associated with cuspidal Hilbert modular forms, and prove sharp bounds for the second moment of their central L-values.

We define a notion of modular forms of half-integral weight on the quaternionic exceptional groups. We prove that they have a well-behaved notion of Fourier coefficients, which are complex numbers defined up to multiplication by ${\pm }1$. We analyze the minimal modular form $\Theta _{F_4}$ on the double cover of $F_4$, following Loke–Savin and Ginzburg. Using $\Theta _{F_4}$, we define a modular form of weight $\tfrac {1}{2}$ on (the double cover of) $G_2$. We prove that the Fourier coefficients of this modular form on $G_2$ see the $2$-torsion in the narrow class groups of totally real cubic fields.

Ranks of partitions play an important role in the theory of partitions. They provide combinatorial interpretations for Ramanujan’s famous congruences for partition functions. We establish a family of congruences modulo powers of $5$ for ranks of partitions.

This work characterizes the vanishing of the Fourier coefficients of all CM (Complex Multiplication) eta quotients. As consequences, we recover Serre’s characterization about that of $\eta(12z)^{2}$ and recent results of Chang on the pth coefficients of $\eta(4z)^{6}$ and $\eta(6z)^{4}$. Moreover, we generalize the results on the cases of weight 1 to the setting of binary quadratic forms.

In this article, we obtain transformation formulas analogous to the identity of Ramanujan, Hardy and Littlewood in the setting of primitive Maass cusp form over the congruence subgroup $\Gamma _0(N)$ and also provide an equivalent criterion of the grand Riemann hypothesis for the $L$-function associated with the primitive Maass cusp form over $\Gamma _0(N)$.

Let f be a non-CM Hecke eigencusp form of level 1 and fixed weight, and let $\{\lambda_f(n)\}_n$ be its sequence of normalised Fourier coefficients. We show that if $K/ \mathbb{Q}$ is any number field, and $\mathcal{N}_K$ denotes the collection of integers representable as norms of integral ideals of K, then a positive proportion of the positive integers $n \in \mathcal{N}_K$ yield a sign change for the sequence $\{\lambda_f(n)\}_{n \in \mathcal{N}_K}$. More precisely, for a positive proportion of $n \in \mathcal{N}_K \cap [1,X]$ we have $\lambda_f(n)\lambda_f(n') < 0$, where n′ is the first element of $\mathcal{N}_K$ greater than n for which $\lambda_f(n') \neq 0$.

For example, for $K = \mathbb{Q}(i)$ and $\mathcal{N}_K = \{m^2+n^2 \;:\; m,n \in \mathbb{Z}\}$ the set of sums of two squares, we obtain $\gg_f X/\sqrt{\log X}$ such sign changes, which is best possible (up to the implicit constant) and improves upon work of Banerjee and Pandey. Our proof relies on recent work of Matomäki and Radziwiłł on sparsely-supported multiplicative functions, together with some technical refinements of their results due to the author.

In a related vein, we also consider the question of sign changes along shifted sums of two squares, for which multiplicative techniques do not directly apply. Using estimates for shifted convolution sums among other techniques, we establish that for any fixed $a \neq 0$ there are $\gg_{f,\varepsilon} X^{1/2-\varepsilon}$ sign changes for $\lambda_f$ along the sequence of integers of the form $a + m^2 + n^2 \leq X$.

Let f be a primitive Hilbert modular form over F of weight k with coefficient field $E_f$ , generated by the Fourier coefficients $C(\mathfrak {p}, f)$ for $\mathfrak {p} \in \mathrm {Spec}(\mathcal {O}_F)$ . Under certain assumptions on the image of the residual Galois representations attached to f, we calculate the Dirichlet density of $\{\mathfrak {p} \in \mathrm {Spec}(\mathcal {O}_F)| E_f = \mathbb {Q}(C(\mathfrak {p}, f))\}$ . For $k=2$ , we show that those assumptions are satisfied when $[E_f:\mathbb {Q}] = [F:\mathbb {Q}]$ is an odd prime. We also study analogous results for $F_f$ , the fixed field of $E_f$ by the set of all inner twists of f. Then, we provide some examples of f to support our results. Finally, we compute the density of $\{\mathfrak {p} \in \mathrm {Spec}(\mathcal {O}_F)| C(\mathfrak {p}, f) \in K\}$ for fields K with $F_f \subseteq K \subseteq E_f$ .

We prove uniform bounds for the Petersson norm of the cuspidal part of the theta series. This gives an improved asymptotic formula for the number of representations by a quadratic form. As an application, we show that every integer $n \neq 0,4,7 \,(\textrm{mod}\ 8)$ is represented as $n= x_1^2 + x_2^2 + x_3^3$ for integers $x_1,x_2,x_3$ such that the product $x_1x_2x_3$ has at most 72 prime divisors.

Let F be a Siegel cusp form of degree $2$ , even weight $k \ge 2$ , and odd square-free level N. We undertake a detailed study of the analytic properties of Fourier coefficients $a(F,S)$ of F at fundamental matrices S (i.e., with $-4\det (S)$ equal to a fundamental discriminant). We prove that as S varies along the equivalence classes of fundamental matrices with $\det (S) \asymp X$ , the sequence $a(F,S)$ has at least $X^{1-\varepsilon }$ sign changes and takes at least $X^{1-\varepsilon }$ ‘large values’. Furthermore, assuming the generalized Riemann hypothesis as well as the refined Gan–Gross–Prasad conjecture, we prove the bound $\lvert a(F,S)\rvert \ll _{F, \varepsilon } \frac {\det (S)^{\frac {k}2 - \frac {1}{2}}}{ \left (\log \lvert \det (S)\rvert \right )^{\frac 18 - \varepsilon }}$ for fundamental matrices S.

In this note, we will apply the results of Gross–Zagier, Gross–Kohnen–Zagier and their generalizations to give a short proof that the differences of singular moduli are not units. As a consequence, we obtain a result on isogenies between reductions of CM elliptic curves.

We prove that if F is a nonzero (possibly noncuspidal) vector-valued Siegel modular form of any degree, then it has infinitely many nonzero Fourier coefficients which are indexed by half-integral matrices having odd, square-free (and thus fundamental) discriminant. The proof uses an induction argument in the setting of vector-valued modular forms. Further, as an application of a variant of our result and complementing the work of A. Pollack, we show how to obtain an unconditional proof of the functional equation of the spinor L-function of a holomorphic cuspidal Siegel eigenform of degree $3$ and level $1$ .

In this paper, we analyze Fourier coefficients of automorphic forms on a finite cover G of an adelic split simply-laced group. Let $\pi $ be a minimal or next-to-minimal automorphic representation of G. We prove that any $\eta \in \pi $ is completely determined by its Whittaker coefficients with respect to (possibly degenerate) characters of the unipotent radical of a fixed Borel subgroup, analogously to the Piatetski-Shapiro–Shalika formula for cusp forms on $\operatorname {GL}_n$ . We also derive explicit formulas expressing the form, as well as all its maximal parabolic Fourier coefficient, in terms of these Whittaker coefficients. A consequence of our results is the nonexistence of cusp forms in the minimal and next-to-minimal automorphic spectrum. We provide detailed examples for G of type $D_5$ and $E_8$ with a view toward applications to scattering amplitudes in string theory.

Suppose that $G$ is a simple reductive group over $\mathbf{Q}$, with an exceptional Dynkin type and with $G(\mathbf{R})$ quaternionic (in the sense of Gross–Wallach). In a previous paper, we gave an explicit form of the Fourier expansion of modular forms on $G$ along the unipotent radical of the Heisenberg parabolic. In this paper, we give the Fourier expansion of the minimal modular form $\unicode[STIX]{x1D703}_{Gan}$ on quaternionic $E_{8}$ and some applications. The $Sym^{8}(V_{2})$-valued automorphic function $\unicode[STIX]{x1D703}_{Gan}$ is a weight 4, level one modular form on $E_{8}$, which has been studied by Gan. The applications we give are the construction of special modular forms on quaternionic $E_{7},E_{6}$ and $G_{2}$. We also discuss a family of degenerate Heisenberg Eisenstein series on the groups $G$, which may be thought of as an analogue to the quaternionic exceptional groups of the holomorphic Siegel Eisenstein series on the groups $\operatorname{GSp}_{2n}$.

A well-known conjecture, often attributed to Serre, asserts that any motive over any number field has infinitely many ordinary reductions (in the sense that the Newton polygon coincides with the Hodge polygon). In the case of Hilbert modular cuspforms $f$ of parallel weight $(2,\ldots ,2)$, we show how to produce more ordinary primes by using the Sato–Tate equidistribution and combining it with the Galois theory of the Hecke field. Under the assumption of stronger forms of Sato–Tate equidistribution, we get stronger (but conditional) results. In the case of higher weights, we formulate the ordinariness conjecture for submotives of the intersection cohomology of proper algebraic varieties with motivic coefficients, and verify it for the motives whose $\ell$-adic Galois realisations are abelian on a finite-index subgroup. We get some results for Hilbert cuspforms of weight $(3,\ldots ,3)$, weaker than those for $(2,\ldots ,2)$.

Let $\unicode[STIX]{x1D707}(m,n)$ (respectively, $\unicode[STIX]{x1D702}(m,n)$) denote the number of odd-balanced unimodal sequences of size $2n$ and rank $m$ with even parts congruent to $2\!\!\hspace{0.6em}{\rm mod}\hspace{0.2em}4$ (respectively, $0\!\!\hspace{0.6em}{\rm mod}\hspace{0.2em}4$) and odd parts at most half the peak. We prove that two-variable generating functions for $\unicode[STIX]{x1D707}(m,n)$ and $\unicode[STIX]{x1D702}(m,n)$ are simultaneously quantum Jacobi forms and mock Jacobi forms. These odd-balanced unimodal rank generating functions are also duals to partial theta functions originally studied by Ramanujan. Our results also show that there is a single $C^{\infty }$ function in $\mathbb{R}\times \mathbb{R}$ to which the errors to modularity of these two different functions extend. We also exploit the quantum Jacobi properties of these generating functions to show, when viewed as functions of the two variables $w$ and $q$, how they can be expressed as the same simple Laurent polynomial when evaluated at pairs of roots of unity. Finally, we make a conjecture which fully characterizes the parity of the number of odd-balanced unimodal sequences of size $2n$ with even parts congruent to $0\!\!\hspace{0.6em}{\rm mod}\hspace{0.2em}4$ and odd parts at most half the peak.

We discuss the generalizations of the concept of Chebyshev’s bias from two perspectives. First, we give a general framework for the study of prime number races and Chebyshev’s bias attached to general L-functions satisfying natural analytic hypotheses. This extends the cases previously considered by several authors and involving, among others, Dirichlet L-functions and Hasse–Weil L-functions of elliptic curves over Q. This also applies to new Chebyshev’s bias phenomena that were beyond the reach of the previously known cases. In addition, we weaken the required hypotheses such as GRH or linear independence properties of zeros of L-functions. In particular, we establish the existence of the logarithmic density of the set $ \{x \ge 2:\sum\nolimits_{p \le x} {\lambda _f}(p) \ge 0\}$ for coefficients (λf(p)) of general L-functions conditionally on a much weaker hypothesis than was previously known.

We study the analogue of the Bombieri–Vinogradov theorem for $\operatorname{SL}_{m}(\mathbb{Z})$ Hecke–Maass form $F(z)$. In particular, for $\operatorname{SL}_{2}(\mathbb{Z})$ holomorphic or Maass Hecke eigenforms, symmetric-square lifts of holomorphic Hecke eigenforms on $\operatorname{SL}_{2}(\mathbb{Z})$, and $\operatorname{SL}_{3}(\mathbb{Z})$ Maass Hecke eigenforms under the Ramanujan conjecture, the levels of distribution are all equal to $1/2,$ which is as strong as the Bombieri–Vinogradov theorem. As an application, we study an automorphic version of Titchmarch’s divisor problem; namely for $a\neq 0,$

We construct the $p$-adic standard $L$-functions for ordinary families of Hecke eigensystems of the symplectic group $\operatorname{Sp}(2n)_{/\mathbb{Q}}$ using the doubling method. We explain a clear and simple strategy of choosing the local sections for the Siegel Eisenstein series on the doubling group $\operatorname{Sp}(4n)_{/\mathbb{Q}}$, which guarantees the nonvanishing of local zeta integrals and allows us to $p$-adically interpolate the restrictions of the Siegel Eisenstein series to $\operatorname{Sp}(2n)_{/\mathbb{Q}}\times \operatorname{Sp}(2n)_{/\mathbb{Q}}$.
