A multiplicative Schwarz iteration algorithm is presented for solving the finite-dimensional nonlinear complementarity problem with an M-function. The monotone convergence of the iteration algorithm is obtained with special choices of initial values. Moreover, by applying the concept of weak regular splitting, the weighted max-norm bound is derived for the iteration errors.

In this paper we study the classification of holomorphic flows on Stein spaces of dimension two. We assume that the flow has periodic orbits, not necessarily with a same period. Then we prove a linearization result for the flow, under some natural conditions on the surface.

In this paper, we obtain several results on the commensurability of two Kleinian groups and their limit sets. We prove that two finitely generated subgroups G1 and G2 of an infinite co-volume Kleinian group G⊂Isom(H3) having Λ(G1)=Λ(G2) are commensurable. In particular, we prove that any finitely generated subgroup H of a Kleinian group G⊂Isom(H3) with Λ(H)=Λ(G) is of finite index if and only if H is not a virtually fibered subgroup.

We consider two problems concerning Kolmogorov widths of compacts in Banach spaces. The first problem is devoted to relations between the asymptotic behavior of the sequence of n-widths of a compact and of its projections onto a subspace of codimension one. The second problem is devoted to comparison of the sequence of n-widths of a compact in a Banach space 𝒴 and of the sequence of n-widths of the same compact in other Banach spaces containing 𝒴 as a subspace.

Let f∈ℚ[X] and let us consider a Diophantine equation z2=f(x)2±f(y)2. In this paper, we continue the study of the existence of integer solutions of the equation, when the degree of f is 2 and if f(x) is a triangular number or a tetrahedral number.

In this paper, we discuss the H1L-boundedness of commutators of Riesz transforms associated with the Schrödinger operator L=−△+V, where H1L(Rn) is the Hardy space associated with L. We assume that V (x) is a nonzero, nonnegative potential which belongs to Bq for some q>n/2. Let T1=V (x)(−△+V )−1, T2=V1/2(−△+V )−1/2 and T3 =∇(−△+V )−1/2. We prove that, for b∈BMO (Rn) , the commutator [b,T3 ] is not bounded from H1L(Rn) to L1 (Rn) as T3 itself. As an alternative, we obtain that [b,Ti ] , ( i=1,2,3 ) are of (H1L,L1weak) -boundedness.

Recently, Daws introduced a notion of co-representation of abelian Hopf–von Neumann algebras on general reflexive Banach spaces. In this note, we show that this notion cannot be extended beyond subhomogeneous Hopf–von Neumann algebras. The key is our observation that, for a von Neumann algebra 𝔐 and a reflexive operator space E, the normal spatial tensor product is a Banach algebra if and only if 𝔐 is subhomogeneous or E is completely isomorphic to column Hilbert space.

Totally umbilical, semi-parallel and parallel hypersurfaces of ℍn×ℝ are completely classified. More examples arise than in the analogous study on the ambient space 𝕊n×ℝ.

We demonstrate that I0(SL(2,ℝ)) fails to be approximately weakly amenable.

This paper gives a characterization of nonexpansive mappings from the unit sphere of ℓβ (Γ) onto the unit sphere of ℓβ (Δ) where 0<β≤1. By this result, we prove that such mappings are in fact isometries and give an affirmative answer to Tingley’s problem in ℓβ (Γ) spaces. We also show that the same result holds for expansive mappings between unit spheres of ℓβ (Γ) spaces without the surjectivity assumption.

Let 𝒰(𝔯(1)) denote the enveloping algebra of the two-dimensional nonabelian Lie algebra 𝔯(1) over a base field 𝕂. We study the maximal abelian ad-nilpotent (mad) associative subalgebras and finite-dimensional Lie subalgebras of 𝒰(𝔯(1)). We first prove that the set of noncentral elements of 𝒰(𝔯(1)) admits the Dixmier partition, 𝒰(𝔯(1))−𝕂=⋃ 5i=1Δi, and establish characterization theorems for elements in Δi, i=1,3,4. Then we determine the elements in Δi, i=1,3 , and describe the eigenvalues for the inner derivation ad Bx,x∈Δi, i=3,4 . We also derive other useful results for elements in Δi, i=2,3,4,5 . As an application, we find all framed mad subalgebras of 𝒰(𝔯(1)) and determine all finite-dimensional nonabelian Lie algebras that can be realized as Lie subalgebras of 𝒰(𝔯(1)) . We also study the realizations of the Lie algebra 𝔯(1) in 𝒰(𝔯(1)) in detail.

We establish the existence of two nontrivial solution for some elliptic systems. In the proofs we apply variational methods and Morse theory.

The conditions in the strong law of large numbers given by Li et al. [‘A strong law for B-valued arrays’, Proc. Amer. Math. Soc.123 (1995), 3205–3212] for B-valued arrays are relaxed. Further, the compact logarithm rate law and the bounded logarithm rate law are discussed for the moving average process based on an array of random elements.

In this work, we give some theorems on (mild) weighted pseudo-almost periodic solutions for some abstract semilinear differential equations with uniform continuity. To facilitate this we give a new composition theorem of weighted pseudo-almost periodic functions. Our composition theorem improves the known one by making use of a uniform continuity condition instead of the Lipschitz condition.

In this paper we study the existence of positive periodic solutions to second-order singular differential equations with the sign-changing potential. Both the repulsive case and the attractive case are studied. The proof is based on Schauder’s fixed point theorem. Recent results in the literature are generalized and significantly improved.

Given a finite field 𝔽p={0,…,p−1} of p elements, where p is a prime, we consider the distribution of elements in the orbits of a transformation ξ↦ψ(ξ) associated with a rational function ψ∈𝔽p(X). We use bounds of exponential sums to show that if N≥p1/2+ε for some fixed ε then no N distinct consecutive elements of such an orbit are contained in any short interval, improving the trivial lower bound N on the length of such intervals. In the case of linear fractional functions we use a different approach, based on some results of additive combinatorics due to Bourgain, that gives a nontrivial lower bound for essentially any admissible value of N.

Some new results related to Jensen’s celebrated inequality for convex functions defined on convex sets in linear spaces are given. Applications for norm inequalities in normed linear spaces and f-divergences in information theory are provided as well.

We detail a construction of totally symmetric surfaces of constant mean curvature 0≤H<1 in hyperbolic 3-space of sectional curvature −1 via the generalized Weierstrass type representation.

In this paper, we deal with the multiplicity of solutions for a fourth-order impulsive differential equation with a parameter. Using variational methods and a ‘three critical points’ theorem, we give some new criteria to guarantee that the impulsive problem has at least three classical solutions. An example is also given in order to illustrate the main results.
