16p12.2 microdeletion has been associated with congenital heart defects and developmental delay. In this case, we describe the rare association between tetralogy of Fallot with an absent pulmonary valve a right-sided aortic arch and a retro-aortic innominate vein associated with a 16p12.2 microdeletion and epilepsy.

Anomalous origin of coronary artery originating from the pulmonary artery in conjunction with the aorticopulmonary window (APW) is a rare but a significant anomaly in the era of congenital cardiac diseases. The occurrence of anomalous origin of the right coronary artery from the pulmonary artery among the associated anomalies is less than 5%. The severity of the clinical condition of these patients depends on the degree of left–right shunt and compromise of the pulmonary blood flow. We report surgical management of a case of a 45-day-old infant with APW, ventricular septal defect, and anomalous origin of coronary artery originated from the pulmonary artery.

An otherwise healthy 17-year-old adolescent boy presented with upper respiratory tract symptoms and was diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 infection. A haemorrhagic pericardial effusion was found in the transthoracic echocardiography. He was treated with pericardiocentesis, ibuprofen, and hydroxychloroquine. A large pericardial effusion may complicate COVID-19 in children and should be considered in acute decompensation.

Hypereosinophilic syndrome is defined as persistent eosinophilia in the blood for more than 6 months, without any identifiable cause and with end-organ involvement evidence. Cardiac manifestations of HES include heart failure due to restrictive cardiomyopathy, arrhythmia, intraventricular thrombosis, and coronary artery involvement occurs frequently. In rare instances, coronary ectasia, aneurysms, or dissection can occur and cause morbidity and mortality in these patients.

A coronary aneurysm occurs rarely in adult patients with HES but to our knowledge, this is the first report of this association in a 14-year-old boy who was presented to us as coronary aneurysm due to hypereosinophilic syndrome.

Loeys–Dietz syndrome is a connective tissue disorder known to cause aggressive aortopathy in paediatric patients, but it is extremely rare for cardiovascular events to present during infancy. We report the first successful aortic repair in a neonate with LDS presenting in extremis with an early onset, massive aortic aneurysm.

A rare case of a patient with a large type IV aortico–left ventricular tunnel who underwent successful repair at 1 day after birth was described. To the best of our knowledge, no such cases that aortic opening was over 10 mm have been reported in the English literature. Our case demonstrated no leak or significant aortic regurgitation by a two-patch repair.

Interestingly, our case presenting with coronary AV fistula firstly reported in the literature with fetal valproate syndrome. Although differential diagnosis is sometimes difficult, it can be diagnosed with detailed history, physical examination and appropriate laboratory tests. Fetal valproate syndrome can be prevented by discontinue of the valproic acid especially during first trimester of pregnancy.

We report on the diagnosis of anomalous coronary artery in two brothers. Following the diagnosis of anomalous coronary artery in one sibling, we screened immediate family relatives and found the same anomaly in the older brother. Familiarity in this pathology is extremely rare. We analysed and compared clinical, echocardiographic and radiological findings in the two brothers.

Scimitar syndrome is a rare variant (5%) of partial abnormal pulmonary venous return. Surgery is required when pulmonary overcirculation is present. Following repair, Scimitar vein stenosis occurs in approximately 20%. We applied a variant of the atrial switch technique using autologous pericardial flap in a patient with Scimitar syndrome and dextrocardia. This tunneling technique allowed tension-free anastomosis and minimal Scimitar vein rotation.

Sialidosis, a rare autosomal recessive disorder, is caused by a deficiency of NEU1 encoded enzyme alpha-N-acetyl neuraminidase. We report a premature male with neonatal-onset type II sialidosis which was associated with left ventricular dysfunction. The clinical presentation and subsequent progression which culminated in his untimely death at 16 months of age are succinctly described. Early-onset cardiovascular involvement as noted in this patient is not well characterised. The case report is supplemented by a comprehensive review of the determinants, characteristics, and the clinical course of cardiovascular involvement in this rare condition.

Kawasaki disease is an acute systemic vascular disease, generally self-limited and typically affecting children <5 years old, which leads to coronary artery aneurysms in about 25% of untreated cases. Cardiovascular involvement is characterised by transient pancarditis, in acute phase, while coronary illness, ranging from mild dilation to giant CAAs occurs late, rarely before the 10th day since fever onset. Here, we describe a peculiar case of KD, which occurred in a 4-month-old infant and presented with exudate cardiac tamponade and early giant aneurism of both the proximal right coronary artery) and the left circumflex coronary artery, in acute phase of the disease.

There has been an increase in the use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for severe neonatal cardiac failure. However, the frequency of complications is high, particularly in preterm and low-birth-weight neonates. Herein, we present combination treatment with transcatheter balloon atrioseptostomy and bilateral pulmonary artery banding in a collapsed preterm neonate. This strategy can be an alternative to circulatory support using extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.

In the presence of complex septal morphology or extra-cardiac factors like severe scoliosis or diaphragm paralysis, the procedure may become more challenging, and pre-formed sheaths and devices thought to facilitate the implantation might turn into a problem to address. Similarly to Herron and Kobayashi, we have experienced a similar issue during atrial septal defect closure with Gore Cardioform atrial septal defect device® in a 12-year-old female patient with severe scoliosis. After the conformation of the locking loop and the removal of the safety cord, the Gore Cardioform atrial septal defect device prolapsed in the right atrium.
