The Internet increasingly influences the lives of people in pandemic times. Although there are many positives, there are also risks related to excessive use and addiction. Internet addiction subject has been explored worldwide.

The aim of this pilot study was to analyze the relationships between social connectedenss, connectedness to nature and the occurrence of Internet addiction.

The data were collected from a group of 200 young adults. A cross-sectional observational study using an online questionnaire was conducted via social media. The semi-structured online questionnaire covered the following areas: (1) general sociodemografic data; (2) Internet usage, measured by Generalized and Problematic Internet Use Scale (GPIUS2) (Caplan, 2002), Internet Gaming Disorder Scale–Short-Form (IGDS-SF9) (Pontes & Griffiths, 2015), the Bergen Facebook Addiction Scale (BFAS) (Andreassen et al., 2012); (3) nature conectedness, measured by the Connectedness to Nature Scale (CNS) (Mayer, Frantz, 2004); (4) social connectedness, measured by the Social Connectedness Scale Revised (SCS) (Lee et al., 2001); (4) psychological impact and mental health, measured by Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale (DASS-21) and (5) psychological features, such as coping strategies (Mini-COPE, Carver et al.,1989) and personality traits (TIPI -Gosling, Rentfrow, Swann Jr., 2003)

The detailed results and key findings will be presented during the congress.

As the research of the desribed area is insufficient so far, this pilot study may provide a significant contribution to the knowledge on new aspects of internet addictions’ mechanisms. Moreover, it is predicted that our result may have scientific influence on both research in connectedness and eco-psychology.

Oder adults have been stereotyped (1), both explicitly and implicitly, as being asexual or naturally lacking sexual desires (2).

The objective of this study is to analyse the perspectives of sexual unwellness (SU) of Portuguese and Slovenian older adults.

A qualitative research was carried out, in which these perceptions were analysed at a cultural level. Methods: The sample of this study consisted of 136 older participants, between 65 and 96 years of age. Participants were of two different nationalities and lived in the community. Participants were interviewed, and all interviews were carried out through the process of literal transcription and subsequent content analysis.

Eight key mutually exclusive themes emerged from the interviews: unavailability of partner; traditional values; body restrictions; low self-esteem and well-being; poor social support; dissatisfaction with physical appearance; pain during sex; and difficulties meeting new people. Unavailability of partner was the most important theme (17.9%) for the studied sample and specifically among Portuguese participants. Conversely, difficulties meeting new people was the least reported theme (6.8%) for the entire sample. For Slovenians traditional values were most relevant with respect to feeling sexually unwell.

Non-suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI) refers to causing damage on body tissue without attending to death. It is mostly presented among the youths and not approved by the society. Studies nowadays have explored the perspectives, feelings or experience of the youths or healthcare professionals. However, negative feelings and misunderstandings toward each other remain from both sides.

The aim was to explore the encountering experience of the youths with NSSI and the healthcare professionals during the same hospitalization in a psychiatric acute ward.

Qualitative study was employed by using narrative approach. In-depth interview was conducted for the youths with NSSI and their primary nurse and resident from a medical center in southern Taiwan.

Narratives from the patients and healthcare professionals showed that the youths seemed to be comfortable as encountering with the healthcare professionals’ caring. In contrast, the healthcare professionals’ struggles had been hidden inside and remained uneasy and unsolved. Two extreme experiences have been reported by the youths with NSSI: felt satisfied and understood about being cared vs. felt numbness and not been understood. Four kinds of experience were identified as: struggling on caring them, feeling confused and helpless, keeping a safe distance, and having contradicted values.

This study found that the healthcare professionals suffer from varied aspects when encountering the youths with NSSI, which they often hid inside without expressing. Future improvement such as care guideline or staff’s support system should be built to decrease the negative effects inside the healthcare professionals’ mind.

Important role of sociocultural mediation of human health is reflected in the regional specificity of subjective evaluation of factors determining human health.

The research is focused on the opinion of respondents from different regions of Russia about the importance of various factors that determine health and subjective well-being.

210 men and 403 women aged 14 to 76 years (M=26.9; SD=13.7) from six regions of the Russia (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Udmurtia, Sakha, Sverdlovsk and Kemerovo) participated in the study. Respondents were asked to rank six factors (genetics, healthy lifestyle, good ecology, regular medical examination, absence of stress, financial well-being) in terms of their impact on health (1 is the most important, 6 is the least important).

It was revealed significant differences among respondents from different regions of the Russia in evaluation of importance of health factors such as “genetics” (F=3.317; p=0.003) and “good ecology” (F=5.008; p<0.001). Respondents from the Sverdlovsk consider “genetics” significantly more important than participants from the Sakha (MD=-0.706; p=0.019) and Kemerovo (MD=-0.859; p=0.015). Respondents from St. Petersburg consider the ‘good ecology’ significantly less important than participants from Moscow (MD=0.791; p=0.046), Udmurtia (MD=0.867; p=0.035), Sakha (MD=1.168; p<0.001), and Kemerovo (MD=1.286; p<0.001).

Regional specificity was found in the subjective evaluation of the importance of factors that determine health and subjective well-being. The reported study was funded by the RFBR, project number 17-29-02506.

The 8-item Stress Mindset Measure-General (SMM-G) is an instrument designed to assess stress-is-enhancing and stress-is-debilitating mindsets. The stress-is-enhancing stress mindset positively correlates with well-being indices and work productivity and negatively correlates with depression and anxiety scores. Mindset could be changed after a psychological, psychoeducational, or psychotherapeutic intervention.

We aim to adapt the SMM-G for adolescents and to explore its factor structure and psychometric properties in a sample of Russian students.

A total of 564 Russian students (337 men, 229 women) from 9 universities aged 17 to 23 years (М=19,9) participated in the study. We computed reliability indicators, conducted exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA).

Psychometric indicators are shown in Table 1. As a result of EFA (maximum likelihood, varimax rotation), two factors (eigenvalues 3,430 and 1,645) were extracted, accounting for 42,9% and 20,6% explained variance. Then, we tested the proposed model via CFA (Table 2).Table 1.

The first factor includes all odd-numbered questions, while the second factor contains all even-numbered questions. This is consistent with the questionnaire’s structure, leading to a natural interpretation of factors as the stress-is-enhancing and stress-is-debilitating mindsets.Table 2.

The most significant complications belong to the patient’s self-evaluation of the influence of the disease on their social functioning, influence essential part of the self-evaluation of the disease and the important point of therapeutic personality accomodate intervention.

Develop the stages of personalized models of psychotherapy

On the basis of the examined 270 somatoform disorders patients and 190 ischemic cardial disease patients we have elaborated a formal test that allows to evaluate quantitatively the influents of the disease on various spheres of patients´ social status.

It was absolutely unrespectable the common for ischemic cardial and somatoform disorders patients rise of significance of personal individual, common life factors in cases of aggravation of the main disease course. We created the personification accomodate psychotherapy system consist with CBT, suggestive and autosuggestive implementations. Elucidation of peculiarity of personal perception of the disease served as basis of elaboration of psychotherapy system, consulting, psychological support for patients with high-effectiveness 1,5 - 3 years catamnes in 85% patients.

The retrospective results showed the necessity the personification oriented models of psychotherapy, parted on stages. On the first stage - sedative-adapting the receptions of CBT and suggestive psychotherapy are used. There is group therapy on second stage. On the third stage-supportive elements of the autogenic training mastered.

Coronavirus Disease 19 (COVID-19) was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) in March 2020. Since the outbreak, neuropsychiatric presentations such as delirium have been developing.

Our aim is to describe sociodemographic and clinical differences between inpatients cursing with Acute Confusional Syndrome (ACS) with and without COVID-19 pneumonia.

This is an observational-descriptive study. All patients attended by the liaison psychiatry service of Hospital del Mar, between February and April 2020, with ACS diagnosis were included. The sample was divided in 2 groups (with and without COVID-19 pneumonia). Sociodemographic and clinical variables including sex, age, previous somatic or psychiatric history, ACS risk factors, ACS subtype and pharmacological treatment were compared. Chi-square and U Mann Whitney tests were used.

The total sample was 62 patients. 43.5% were women with a mean age of 71,7 (SD 11,3). Covid pneumonia group included 26 patients. There was a higher percentage of Hypoxemia in Covid pneumonia patients (p<0,001). There were significant differences between Covid pneumonia group and ACS in relation to: a previous diagnosis of Ischemic Heart Disease (p=0,007), Heart Failure (p=0,029) and Nephropathy (p=0,022). Dexmedetomidine (p=0,001) was highly used for ACS treatment in Covid pneumonia patients.

In this sample, patients with ACS and Covid pneumonia had a bigger rate of hypoxemia and previous history of Ischemic Heart Disease, Heart Failure and Nephropathy compared to the rest of ACS patients. Dexmedetomidine was more commonly used for the treatment of ACS in Covid pneumonia group. More studies would be necessary to assess the significance.

Mood disorders, including depression, are diseases associated with an increased risk of several metabolic alterations. Metabolomics studies have proved their potential for detecting novel biomarkers of psychiatric diseases.

To analyze the plasma metabolite profiling of patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) compared to healthy controls.

The blood samples were collected from 11 patients diagnosed with MDD and 11 healthy controls, and plasma was separated by centrifugation. The profiles of the metabolites in the plasma samples were determined by Ultra-High Performance Liquid Chromatography-Quadrupole Time of Flight Electrospray Mass Spectrometry (UHPLC-QTOF-MS) in positive mode. The chromatograms were processed by Compass DataAnalysis 4.2 using the Find Molecular Feature (FMF) method and Profile Analysis 2.1 (Bruker, Daltonics) was further used for matrix generation. The MetaboAnalyst online software was used for univariate and multivariate analysis. The mass/charge ratio (m/z values) determined by biostatistics were identified from the Lipidomic Gateway (www.lipidmaps.org) and Human Metabolomic Data Base (www.hmdb.ca).

We found 14 metabolites which could discriminate between cases and controls, having an area under the curve (AUC) in the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis of higher than 0.6. Among these, only two metabolites passed the p<0.05 threshold of statistical significance, one being 2.5 more abundant (p<0.001) in the plasma of MDD patients compared to controls and the other being 1.7 more abundant (p=0.005) in MDD patients compared to controls.

The only metabolite that passed the false discovery rate correction was putatively identified from the metabolomics database as being the phosphatidylcholine PC (16:0/16:0).

Ketamine, synthesized in 1962 as phencyclidine derivate, is denominated a “dissociative anesthetic” because of its side-effects, such as dissociative episodes and psychotic-like symptoms, which have limited its applicability on clinical practice. Otherwise, in the last decades the non-medical use of ketamine has been growing and today is one of the most popular illicit substances consumed between adolescents and young adults.

Increasing the knowledge and understanding of the factors related to crescent use of ketamine and the experiences and consequences associated to its consumption.

Clinical interview with patients diagnosed with ketamine use disorder and bibliographic research in Pubmed database using the terms “Ketamine use” and “Ketamine addiction”.

Pat et al. (2002) describes a clinical case of a young male, diagnosed with substance use disorders, specifically alcohol and cocaine use disorders, that started a treatment with ketamine. After the treatment, pleasant depersonalization experiences contributed to the development of patient’s ketamine dependence. Other patient’s reports confirm the association of ketamine use with psychedelic effects and dissociative episodes and pointed these effects as main reason for its consumption.

The adverse effects that limited the medical use of ketamine are the same that promote its utilization with recreational purposes by adolescents and young adults in parties and nightclubs. About the ketamine dependence, the literature is scarce and doesn´t clearly identify a physical withdrawal syndrome, pointing only to a serious psychological dependence. Thus, with the crescent non-medical use of ketamine, it’s urgent to develop an intervention plan directed to this problem.

Parkinson’s disease (PD), the second most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer’s disease, affects 1% of the population after the age of 60. Motor symptoms are the most common features that may be associated with non-motor symptoms including psychotic symptoms.

Faire le point sur les modalités de prise en charge des symptômes psychotiques au cours de la maladie de Parkinson

Nous décrivons 3 cas de développement de symptômes psychotiques, survenus chez des patients atteints de la maladie de Parkinson, et faisons le point sur la prise en charge des manifestations symptomatiques psychiatriques dans la maladie de Parkinson, par une brève revue de la littérature.

Case 1: 42-year-old man, with 5 years’ history of PD, presented with auditory hallucinations comorbid with paranoid personality disorder, which occurred 12 months following antiparkinsonian drugs use. Case 2: 58-year-old man, with 17 years’ history of PD, presented jealousy delusions and behavioral disorders, which occurred 12 years following antiparkinsonian drugs use. Case 3: 76-year-old man, with 36 years’ history of PD, presented visual hallucinations, subjective sensation of a presence and jealousy delusion, which occurred 26 years following antiparkinsonian drugs use.

Enhancing understanding of depression symptom interactions between parents and associations with subsequent child emotional difficulties will inform targeted treatment of depression to prevent transmission within families.

To use a network approach to identify ‘bridge’ symptoms that reinforce mother and father depression, and whether bridge symptoms, as well as other symptoms, impact subsequent child emotional difficulties.

Symptoms were examined using two unregularized partial correlation network models. The study included 4,492 mother-father-child trios from a prospective, population-based cohort in the United Kingdom. Mother and father reports of depression symptoms were assessed when the child was twenty-one months old. Child emotional difficulties were reported by the mother at ages nine, eleven and thirteen years.

Bridge symptoms mutually reinforcing mother and father depression symptoms were feelings of guilt and self-harm ideation, whereas anhedonia acted as a bridge from the father to the mother, but not vice-versa (fig.1, network 1). The symptom of feelings of guilt in mothers was the only bridge symptom which directly associated with child emotional difficulties. Other symptoms that directly associated with child emotional difficulties were feeling overwhelmed for fathers and anhedonia, sadness, and panic in mothers (fig.1, network 2).

Specific symptom interactions are central to the co-occurrence of depression symptoms between parents. Of interest, only one of the bridge symptoms associated with later child emotional difficulties. In addition, specific symptom-to-child outcomes were identified, suggesting that different symptoms in mothers and fathers are central for increased vulnerability in children.

Healthcare services are primarily focusing on medical and physical treatment of COVID-19 while psychosocial and mental health needs are not considered a priority.

The purpose of this study was to explore how recovered individuals with COVID-19 adapted to their psychological and social stressors during infection period.

A descriptive phenomenological approach conducted using a purposeful sample of 13 individuals recovered from COVID-19 in Jordan. Data collected using unstructured interviews.

Perception of being diagnosed with COVID-19 revealed to three major themes; positive learning (acceptance, avoiding social pressure, and normalizing), tolerating ambiguity (denial and seeking information and guidance), and resilience (caring family, professionals’ support, self-grieving, optimism, positive thinking, and spirituality).

The study indicates that there is a need to integrate psychosocial and mental health care services into healthcare plans provided to individuals with COVID-19.

Approximately 30% of individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia suffer from treatment-resistant or refractory schizophrenia. The gold standard for treatment is clozapine. However, a significant number of patients discontinue clozapine treatment and this carries a poor prognosis.

This study explores patients’ motives for cessation of clozapine therapy and its prevalence.

A longitudinal, retrospective and descriptive study on a period of 20 years, at the psychiatry department A of the Razi hospital in Tunisia. Data was collected from the medical files of patients trated by clozapine using a pre-established sheet.

The studied sample included 64 patient records. Treatment with clozapine was stopped spontaneously or following a medical decision in 37 patients (57.8%). The total number of clozapine stops in these 37 patients was 70. Indeed, each one of these patients had stopped treatment at least once. Clozapine was discontinued by some patients in the study sample for poor compliance(45.9%), for adverse side effects of treatment (16.2%) and by treating physicians for poor response treatment (8.1%). Clozapine was discontinued by 11 patients for hematological adverse reactions, representing 27.9% of the total number of clozapine discontinuations. Withdrawal of clozapine was indicated in 2 cases of agranulocytosis(18.2%), in 2 cases of moderate neutropenia(18.2%), in 3 cases of eosinophilia (27.2%), in 3 cases of thrombocytopenia (27.2%) and in 1 case of severe anemia (9.2%).

Clozapine discontinuation was essentially caused by poor patients’ observation and hematological adverse reactions appearance.Future research should seek to further investigate clozapine cessation factors in order to better benefit from the medical virtues of this molecule.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a disorder in which recurring, intrusive, unwanted thoughts, ideas or sensations cause them to feel driven to do something repetitively. The repetitive behaviors can significantly interfere with a person’s daily activities and social interactions. Not performing the behaviors commonly causes great distress.

Clinical trials are required for proper assessment and management of this group of patients.

Mrs. X, a 28 year old female coming for psychiatric consultation with the complaints of self talking, irritability and aggression, insomnia.She fantasizes a man publicly, whom she loves but he has no existence in reality. She tries to solve all kinds of problems by talking to that fantasy man. If anyone interrupts her, she becomes irritable, shouts and breaks things. But for the last 3 months she realized that its a problem. Because, she can’t eat, sleep and concentrate on her household chores for this fantasy. Even she can’t take care of her child and feeling low sexual affection for her husband. On personal history, she said that she had poor attachment with her parents.

After thorough assessment, her consultant Psychiatrist told that she was sufering from unhealthy fantasy obsession or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

It is very important and urgent to assess and manage this group of patients, because this has a devastating impact on relationships, specially on the conjugal life. Psychoeducation about the ilness and Psychotherapy along with pharmacotherapy should be the mode of treatment.

Dual diagnosis is commonly treated by Community Mental Health Team (CMHT). Addiction is a common complicating factor in individuals with major mental illnesses. It is established that businesses on high streets impact on the public’s health.

We hope to generate discussion about the planning and the placement of community mental health services.

The location of County Dublin community mental health teams’ outpatient clinics’ and day hospitals’ were obtained from the Health Service Executive directory website. All off licenses’ and bookmakers’ addresses in County Dublin were obtained from the Irish Revenue Commissioners website. The distances were measured using Google Maps and a programming script to generate a matrix under one-kilometre radius walking distances between the locations. No ethical approval is required. All Data are sought from publicly available websites.

On average, there are 6.29 (SD 4.20; Median 5.) off-licenses and 2.4 (SD 2.28; Median 2) bookmarkers offices per mental health facility within1 km walking distance. The Central Dublin Mental Health Service has the highest prevalence of off-licenses (45, 34.4%), and the Central South Dublin Service(20, 39.2%) has the highest prevalence of bookmakers. Southeast Dublin Service has the lowest in both businesses. The closest distance to an off-license from mental health facilities was 0 meters.

Psychiatrists have a role in advocating the needs of individuals with dual diagnoses. The Department of Health and Health Service Executive (HSE) should develop a guideline and protocol for the community health services in the structuring and planning mental health services in the community health outpatient service setup.

Referral is not a necessity for a patient who wants to get psychiatrist consultation in Latvia. The good thing about it is the availability and the possibility to consult with highest educated mental health specialist for any person in society without barriers. On the other hand, there is an overwhelming work load for psychiatrists.

To explore the prevalence of self-referred patients in out-patient care and the adherence to psychiatrist recommendations.

The medical documentation of all consecutive first-time out-patient center “Pardaugava” psychiatrist patients over the period of 01.01.2020. to 30.04.2020. with one year follow-up was analyzed.

236 patients were included in the study, 31.2% of them were men. The average age was 49 (SD ± 22.65) years. Patients with Affective (F3X) and Neurotic (F4X) disorders were self-referred more often compared to Organic mental (F0X) disorder or other spectrum patients (83.3% and 77.5% vs 33.3% or 56.0%, p<0.001). Median appointment count was 4, higher in F4X (6) and lower in F3X patients (2). Majority of F4X patients (61,6%) did not follow the recommendations or stopped seeing psychiatrist, while only 13,7% were persistent. Сonversely, 48,4% of F3X patients followed the recommendations and only 43,5% stopped. In comparison, other spectrum patients followed recommendations in 32.0% of cases and ignored - in 56.6%.

Patients were actively self-referring themselves to psychiatrist. Highest adherence to psychiatrist recommendations was found in patients with affective disorders compared to other spectrum patients. In contrast, adherence was the lowest in patients with neurotic disorders.

This work represents the continuation of the studies presented in two e-posters during the EPA 2021 conference (De Filippi et al., 2021; Rignanese et al., 2021), which addressed the physical pain-suicidality association (k=44 studies).

The aim of this meta-analysis is to provide an update of those studies, integrating data relating to adolescents, adults, and olders.

We started with the analysis of three papers, in particular a meta-analysis (Calati et al., 2015) and two systematic reviews (Hinze et al., 2019; Santos et al., 2019). After searching on Pubmed (until September 2020), data were extracted from articles comparing the rates of current and lifetime suicidal thoughts and behaviours (death wish, suicidal ideation, suicidal planning, suicide attempt and suicide death: DW, SI, SP, SA, and SD) in adolescents, adults, and olders with any type of physical pain and in individuals who did not report this condition. Data were analysed using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis Software (CMA) version 2.

67 studies were included, of which 16 on adolescents, 29 on adults, 16 on olders, and 6 on mixed ages. Although quite high between-study heterogeneity was detected in most analyses, results suggested that individuals with physical pain are more likely to report any form of suicidal outcome if compared to those not affected by pain.

Collected data are therefore in line with previous literature on this topic, which considered physical pain an extremely predictive risk factor for suicidal thoughts and behaviours. However, further research on this topic would be extremely useful.

The use of technological supports in psychotherapeutic interventions has been widespread in recent years. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the increase has been greater. The feasibility of online group interventions has been proved in previous studies. Research comparing dropout rates in group interventions with clinical population that include mindfulness training is infrequent.

To compare the difference in dropout rates between online and face-to-face mindfulness-based group interventions.

This study was carried out in a Mental Health Unit in Colmenar Viejo (Madrid, Spain). One hundred thirty-five adult patients with anxiety disorders were included in group interventions (74 face-to-face; 61 online). The group treatments were Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and a Mindfulness-based Emotional Regulation intervention, during 8 weeks, guided by two Clinical Psychology residents. A descriptive analysis of dropout rates (participants attending 3 or fewer sessions out of the total number of participants starting the intervention) was performed.

Of the 135 patients included, 8 did not participate in the interventions (5 face-to-face; 3 online), which represents a 5.93% rejection rate; 6.76% for the face-to-face intervention and 4.92% for the online intervention. Of the remaining sample (127 participants), a total dropout rate of 12.6% was obtained, with 8.69% in the face-to-face intervention versus 17.24% online.

A higher dropout rate was obtained in online interventions compared to face-to-face, with an increase of almost double. Research on specific factors that may interfere with treatment adherence to online group interventions is needed.

Patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) with acute suicidal ideation or behavior (MDSI) require immediate intervention. Though oral antidepressants can be effective at reducing depressive symptoms, they can take 4–6 weeks to reach full effect.

This study aimed to identify unmet needs in the treatment of patients with MDSI, specifically exploring the potential clinical benefits of rapid reduction of depressive symptoms.

A Delphi panel consisting of practicing psychiatrists (n=12) from the US, Canada and EU was conducted between December 2020–June 2021. Panelists were screened to ensure they had sufficient experience with managing patients with MDD and MDSI. Panelists completed two survey rounds, and a virtual consensus meeting.

This research confirmed current unmet needs in the treatment of patients with MDSI.

Hopelessness, functional impairment, worsening of MDD symptoms, recurrent hospitalization and higher risk of suicide attempt were considered as key consequences of the slow onset of action of oral antidepressants.

Treatment with rapid acting antidepressant was anticipated by panelists to provide short-term benefit such as rapid reduction of core MDD symptoms which may contribute to shorter hospital stays and improved patient engagement/compliance, allowing for earlier interventions and improved patient outcomes. For long-term benefits, panelists agreed that improved daily functioning and increased trust/confidence in treatment options, constitute key benefits of rapid-acting treatments

There is need for rapid-acting treatments which may help address key unmet needs and provide clinically meaningful benefits driven by the rapid relief of depressive symptoms particularly in patients with MDSI.
