The combination of antipsychotics can be seen in up to 70% due to the presence of resistance to treatment, aggression, sleep disorders, and self destructive behavior in psychosis spectrum disorders in clinical practice. More side effects were observed in patients using antipsychotic combinations.

The aim of this study is retrospectively investigate the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics differences between antipsychotic combination and monotherapy groups

The files of 754 cases admitted to the hospital from the first day of January 2013 to the last day of December 2016 were reached. Patients diagnosed as according to DSM-5 “Schizophrenia Spectrum and Other Psychotic Disorders” were included. From the files of these cases, sociodemographic characteristics, disease characteristics and antipsychotic properties (clozapine use, combined antipsychotic and depot antipsychotic use) were used. Pearson chi-square test and student t test were used in data analysis

Age was significantly lower in patients treated with combined antipsychotics than patients receiving monotherapy (t = 2,264, p = 0.026). Age of onset of psychosis was significantly lower in patients treated with combined antipsychotics (t = 2,771, p = 0.007). Education level was also found to be lower in this group (t = 2,333, p = 0.02) The duration of hospitalization was longer in patients treated with combined antipsychotics (t = 3,069, p = 0.002).

There were statistically significant differences between the patients treated with combined antipsychotics compared to the group treated with monotherapy. These are the differences in the age of onset of psychosis, education level and duration of hospitalization.

In 2018, it was implanted in a Brazilian public university, the UEPG Abraça Extension Program, which has as objectives to realize psychosocial care and accompaniment, offer psychotherapies and therapeutic groups to the university community, that is, students, professors and university staff to suicide prevention, coping with mental disorders and the problematic use of alcohol and other drugs. The Program has a multi-professional team composed of nurses, social worker, psychologists and psychiatrists, in an exclusive environment, thus guaranteeing comfort and secrecy to users.

To characterize the socio-demographic and clinical profile of users assisted by the UEPG Abraça Program and to disclose the importance of the service for the promotion of Mental Health.

Qualitative, quantitative, descriptive study, with a structured questionnaire as the research instrument. The collection took place in 2019 and the target audience were users who sought psychological care.

There were 469 admissions/visits and 35 of them continued with individual visits in 2020. The majority of users were female (58%) and had the age group between 17 and 20 years. The main mental health problems identified were anxiety, self-knowledge and university-related problems such as interpersonal conflicts and difficulties in the work process. The most attended undergraduate courses were Letters, Journalism and Dentistry.

It is noted the importance of a psychosocial care service at university level for the care and promotion of Mental Health.

Our 15-years follow-up ReMIND project aims to re-assess an epidemiological and a clinical sample of adults (Wave 3), who were assessed in preadolescence (Wave 1) and adolescence (Wave 2), to evaluate symptoms trajectories and their relationship with genetic/epigenetic data, environmental risk factors and neuroimaging measures.

Here, we depict preliminary results regarding the epidemiological sample.

We assessed internalizing and externalizing symptoms in 40 italian subjects (25 F) from general population at three waves (W1 mean age: 12±0,82; W2 mean age: 17±0,88, W3 mean age: 28±1), through the Child Behavior Checklist (W1 and W2) or the Adult Self Report (W3), and perinatal risk factors through a socio-anamnestic questionnaire, by a new online platform (MedicalBit). We analyzed symptoms trajectories and their relation with perinatal risk factors through a repeated measures multivariate analysis of variance (rm-MANOVA).

rm-MANOVA results show that high number of perinatal risks was significantly associated with higher internalizing symptomatology in preadolescence but not in adolescence and adult life. The mean difference was 8 T-points. The same trend is evident in adolescence but not in adult age (Graph 1). Perinatal risk factors did not have a significant effect on externalizing symptoms at any time point, despite a non-significant trend is evident (Graph 2).

Our preliminary results suggest a trend of increased internalizing symptoms from childhood to adulthood and a significant role of perinatal risk factors in pre-adolescence. Further investigations are necessary to better understand symptoms trajectories and the role of biological and environmental factors.

The problem of COVID-19 is acute now in all the countries. Nevertheless, the techniques of applied clinical psychology are rarely implemented in this struggle.

The aim was to examine the possibilities of the applied clinical psychology in instructing children and adolescents and in exerting psychological influence on them in order to decrease the incidence.

The following methods were used: thematic analysis of relevant information on TV and on Russian-speaking internet, interviews with adolescents refusing to wear masks (110 adolescents), observation.

87% of adolescents are sure that they are “fully informed about the COVID-19.” Moreover, 70% are certain they “will not be infected with COVID-19” and even if they do, they will “have a mild form of the disease.” Such information was widely reproduced in the Russian media and proved by medical statistics. It influenced negatively the attitude of adolescents toward masks, social distancing, etc.

1) The information concerning COVID-19 requires introduction of the changes based on psychological data. 2) The ways of informing children and adolescents should be carefully analyzed using psychological data. In information for young people, their responsibility, solidarity and empathy toward others should be involved. 3) The situation of COVID-19 may become a space for potential development, this situation may shape respect toward the health of other people. 4) The “situation of test,” which is significant for the self-awareness of adolescents, should be employed as a way to persuade adolescents to follow the health restrictions.

Lithium is widely used in the treatment of the bipolar disorder. Once introduced, it is necessary to carry out an adequate control of the therapeutic range, since it is potentially toxic, and can affect various organs.

To present the case of a patient suffering from lithium poisoning and to review the symptoms of lithium poisoning.

A descriptive study of a clinical case and review of the literature

49-year-old woman, married. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder. She went to the emergency room due to a low level of consciousness, kidney failure, trembling of the limbs, hyperthermia and leukocytosis. In the last two weeks, the patient has reduced her intake of food, not water, finding herself more and more shaky and less reactive. Lithium in blood at admission 1.71, so conventional dialysis was performed with a progressive decrease into 0.65. On examination, he is practically mutist, bradypsychia with a significant response latency. Clinical judgment: Accidental lithium poisoning.

The primary site of toxicity is the central nervous system and clinical manifestations vary from asymptomatic supratherapeutic drug concentrations to clinical toxicity such as confusion, ataxia, or seizures. Severe lithium neurotoxicity occurs almost exclusively in the context of chronic therapeutic administration of lithium and rarely results from acute ingestion of lithium, even in patients currently taking lithium. As such it is an iatrogenic illness, occurring in patients who have identifiable clinical risk factors: nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, older age, abnormal thyroid function and impaired renal function.

Anorexia of females adolescents has a high mortality rate and heavy health, psychological, family consequences even in case of survival.

To reduce the mortality rate and the consequences of anorexia by providing a theory that allows us to have early or even predictive diagnosis

25 years ago I found blood type (O, A, B, AB) difference between an anorexic patient and her mother. Pregnancy had been with placental detachment and birth was traumatic, presumed causes of a mother/daughter blood contact. From that day on, I checked, in the case of Anorexia of the Female Adolescent, the blood types of the anorexic girl and her mother.

In my collection of data (more than 100 cases in 25 years): only the girls who have a different blood type (O, A, B, AB) from the mother are anorexic and from the patient’s history, we could think of a mother/daughter blood contact during the pregnancy. There are no exceptions in my data. My new theory is that Anorexia of the Female Adolescent, in addition to the girl’s psychological causes, needs a “conditio sine qua non” (a necessary but not sufficient condition): Different mother/daughter blood types (O,A,B,AB) and traumatic contact between the two blood types during pregnancy and/or birth”.

My theory facilitates early diagnosis (Preventive Medicine) by limiting observation, for Anorexia risk, to only daughters with a different blood type than that of the mother. Recognizing this “conditio sine qua non” for Anorexia of the Female Adolescent allows us an early diagnosis and a predictive hypothesis.

Esketamine had been rised as a potential treatment for Resistant Depression, becoming an alternative for the use of Electroconvulsive Therapy. In Spain since 2020, it has been applied for compassionate use but is not widely used. Although Esketamine is defined safe and effective in preliminary studies, there are common side effects which could reduce it use.

Increasing blood pressure has been found commonly in ederly population treated with Esketamine Nasal. Studies showed as very common side effect (10% or more) increasing systolic and diastolic blood pressure which is higher in elderly people. Our aim is to show that esketamine is well tolerated and safe in ederly people without increasing blood pressure, although is combinate with oral antidepressant therapy.

Presenting female 65-year-old with 4 years of treatment maintaining a moderate-severe symptoms. Althougt numerous pharmacological strategies have been attempted, with optimal time and maximum doses, which have been progressively withdrawing showing lack of efficacy or appearance of adverse effects. Among the drugs used we find; 11 antidepressants, 3 antipsychotics, benzodiazepines and even lithium, without response after 6 weeks of treatment. Futhermore, patient refusal to receive Electro-Convulsive Therapy. Treating with Esketamine nasal and applying the established guidelines.

Assess the response to Esketamine Nasal with Montgomery-Asberg depression scale (MADRS) we found that decrease the initial score in 26 points. Evaluating blood pressure before and after each time with no increased value.

Concluding esketamine is well tolerated and safe in ederly people without increasing blood pressure. These findings and results should be confirmed with futher studies.

Suicide is a public health problem which has biopsychosocial aspects. These three compartments function differently for women and men in terms of biology and gender inequality.

This study aims to investigate completed suicide rates in Turkey for women and men seperately considering age ranges for each, and their relationship with gender equality.

Sex and age specific data between 2015-2019 was derived from Turkish Statistical Institute. Utilizing Bağdatlı Kalkan’s study (2018) and Turkey’s Gender Equality Ratings (2019), 81 cities were seperated into two clusters (Table 1). Mann Whitney U and Independent Samples T Test were applied.

Young women’s (<30 years old) crude completed suicide rates were higher, when crude completed suicide rates for men over the age of 30 were fewer in the cities which equality index is low (Table 2). Regardless of age ranges, in better gender equality cluster, female suicide rates were fewer, male suicide rates were higher. The number of deaths by suicide in 1000 deaths didn’t differ for men, while the rate decreases for women in better gender equality cluster (Table 3).

Gender inequality may negatively effect young women’s mental health in more patriarchal cities in Turkey from the point of completed suicide.

Autistic Spectrum Condition is often characterized by the presence of deficits in social interaction. An abnormal attentional processing may explain these difficulties, as it has been suggested that individuals with autism spectrum conditions may have problems with orienting attention to socially relevant stimuli and/or inhibiting their attentional responses to irrelevant ones.

The aim of the current study is to shed light on this issue by the assessment of the attentional orienting and inhibitory control to emotional stimuli (angry, happy, and neutral faces).

An antisaccade task (with both prosaccade and antisaccade blocks) was applied to a final sample of 29 children with autism spectrum conditions and 27 children with typical development.

The main findings were: i) children with autism spectrum condition committed more antisaccade error when seeing angry faces than happy or neutral faces, while children with typical development committed more antisaccade errors when seeing happy faces than neutral faces, and ii) latencies in the prosaccade and antisaccade blocks were associated with the severity of autism symptoms.

These results suggest that children with autism spectrum conditions show an impaired inhibitory control when angry faces are presented. This bias to negative high-arousal information is congruent with affective information-processing theories suggesting that threatening stimuli induce an overwhelming response in autism. From a clinical perspective, therapeutic strategies that focus on shifting attention to emotional stimuli may improve autism symptomatology and their socials functioning.

Individuals with schizophrenia have a shortened average life expectancy, with a lifetime risk of suicide around 5%.

Here we present a case of a patient diagnosed with schizophrenia who developed depressive symptoms with suicidal ideation, reactive to psychotic symptoms. Considering this specific case, the factors that contribute to the increased risk of suicide in these patients are reviewed.

Relevant clinical information was extracted from the patient’s clinical process. In addition, we searched PubmedR database with the terms “Schizophrenia”, “Hopelessness” and “Suicide”.

A 40-year-old male patient, single and unemployed presents a progressive psychotic condition, with 20 years of evolution, with an impact on social and work behaviour. As a background he has a history of depressive episodes with suicidal ideation at the age of 36, following psychotic symptoms. This is a patient with preserved cognitive functioning combined with a high level of education, who understands the impact of his reality on his functioning. In this context, he develops feelings of hopelessness, that are the risk factor for suicide, most consistently reported in patients with schizophrenia.

This case assesses a patient with schizophrenia who has several factors, that contribute to an increased risk of suicide, focusing on hopelessness. In the future, it may be interesting to study in more detail the individual weight of each factor, so that it is possible to accurately predict the individual risk of each patient and, consequently, it is possible to implement preventive strategies.

Psychosis it is a serious medical condition that could happen to anyone while travelling, even without a prior history of mental illness. Some psychotic episodes during travel likely are brief psychotic disorders. This is a poorly understood subject that seems to have an increasing incidence.

This work aims to present a clinical case of a patient who developed psychotic symptoms on her visit to China, and to provide a brief update review of this subject.

We describe a case based on patient’s history and clinical data. We also searched and reviewed cases on “travel” AND “psychosis” and “tourist” AND “psychosis” using PubMed® database.

We report the case of a 41-year-old woman without psychiatric antecedents or substance use who developed psychotic symptoms during a travel to China. Symptoms resolved completely soon after returning to Portugal and admission to the psychiatric emergency service where an antipsychotic treatment was initiated. Psychosis in tourists typically occur in destinations with strong symbolic or mystical connotations and in individuals who travel alone for several days. The most common symptoms are hallucinations, delusions, ideas of reference and agitation. Most patients improved and returned to previous functioning.

To improve the knowledge of travel-related psychosis it is important to identify the cases and the associated biological and clinical factors, later on it may be possible to identify the predictive factors of these psychosis. Further research are necessary to establish a possible association between brief psychotic episode and travel to China, as reports for tourists to Jerusalem and to Florence.

Obsessional slowness (OS) is a rare condition of disabling slow motor performance, first described in 1974, by Rachman, who documented 10 cases of “primary obsessional slowness”. Rachman argued that, although his patients with OS had Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), their motor symptoms were not related to the presence of motor-slowness-triggering obsessions/compulsions (e.g. checking and mental rituals). Whether OS truly is a distinct and “primary” entity is still a controversial issue, however.

To present and discuss the phenomenology of OS.

Case reports of OS published in the literature, including Rachman’s descriptions.

The literature on OS is extremely limited, with no published, large-scale descriptive studies or randomized controlled trials. Some authors doubt that OS is a “primary” condition, pointing out the clear overlap between OS and catatonia and emphasizing that the latter disorder also occurs in non-schizophrenic patients, for example, ones with OCD. Additionally, OCD and depression often co-occur. Thus, in severe cases, it may be challenging to disentangle the separate contribution of both disorders to psychomotor slowness. It is also crucial to exclude the possibility that a patience has juvenile parkinsonism or other causes of motor slowness before diagnosing him/her with OS, given that the diagnostic approaches and treatment strategies for OS and the aforementioned disorders differ.

OS seems to be a rare but often disabling motor manifestation of OCD, rather than a primary disease entity. However, some cases sit on the edge of current diagnostic criteria. Future research should help define OS more precisely.

Hardiness is a set of attitudes, providing courage and motivation to cope with stress (Maddi, 2006). The COVID-19 outbreak and the response to it caused exceptional stress and drastically changed the everyday routine, endangering many people`s psychological well-being and mobilizing coping resources.

The study aimed to determine whether hardiness provided coping resources to deal with COVID-19 outbreak-related stressors.

949 participants from Russia (ages 18-66) voluntarily completed online questionnaires: BAI; BDI; SCL-90-R; Personal Views Survey III during the early COVID-19 restrictions (24 March - 15 May). Subsamples from four time periods were compared using ANOVA. The first dataset was collected before the official restrictions’ introduction (n=88). The second subsample was gathered during the “days off” week (n=262). The third period started with the “days off” extension and ended with the strict self-isolation announcement (n=296). The fourth dataset was gathered during self-isolation (n=303). General linear models (GLM) were used to determine the effect of variables on anxiety, depression, and general symptomatic index (GSI).

Hardiness, anxiety, depression, and GSI differed significantly between the time-periods (F=4.899, p<0.01; F=3.173, p<0.05; F=8.096, p<0.01; F=3.244, p<0.022 ; F=4.899, p<0.01 respectively). GLMs showed gender, chronic diseases, self-assessed fears, and hardiness contribution to anxiety, depression, and GSI. Hardiness had the biggest effect on all models. Anxiety was additionally influenced by the time factor, which also interacted with hardiness (see Figure 1). With lower hardiness, higher anxiety arose over time.

Hardiness notably contributes to personal adaptation during the COVID-19 outbreak-related restrictions.

Individual abilities to perceive internal and external sensations are defined respectively as interoception and exteroception: the dysregulation of these functions can explain many psychotic symptoms. (Ardizzi et al. 2016)

We evaluated the differences in the interoceptive and exteroceptive perception between 39 patients with psychosis and 250 healthy controls using self-administered questionnaires. The association between interoception and exteroception in the two groups was also tested.

The tests we used are AASP (Adolescent / Adult Sensory Profile) and MAIA (Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness). Differences were measured with t-tests, associations with spearman’s correlation.

Significant differences emerged between the two samples in the AASP total score and in its Low registration (LR) and Sensory Avoiding (SA) sub-scales and in the MAIA total score and in all its sub-scales except “Not Worrying” (Fig.1). Different patterns of associations between AASP and MAIA were observed: psychotic patients showed negative correlations between MAIA and AASP in the LR and Sensation Seeking (SS) sub-scales and in the auditory (AU) and tactile (TO) sensory channels. Healthy controls, positive correlations emerged between MAIA and AASP in the Sensation Seeking (SK) sub-scale and in the “perception of movement” (MO) sub-score (Fig.2)(Fig.3).

Higher scores of psychotic patients in AASP and MAIA reveal both a disregulated sensory related behavior and a hightened awareness towards internal stimuli. The negative correlation between the two scales in psychotic subjects highlights the importance of the interaction between internal and external perception in determining the global subjective experience.

Within the hub and spoke organizational model provided by the Emilia Romagna Region for assistance to people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), Cesena ward of psychiatry represents the hospital Hub. Here, a dedicated team (doctors, psychologist, case manager) creates individualized pathways to ensure second-level specialist diagnostics and the management of comorbidities affecting subjects diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Intellectual Disability (ID).

We report the case of a 23-year-old man, who from the age of 6 was opposed to any instrumental diagnostic investigation.

In order to guarantee the patient’s full collaboration in carrying out essential diagnostic activities, short behavioural paths were created including video modelling. The Vi.Co app was used and a new app was created to target behaviors that could not be included in Vi.Co

It was thus possible to make the patient compliant with the execution of blood samples, ECG, MRI of the brain in sedation and CT dental scan.

In our case, communication support systems and behavioral strategies have proved to be excellent allies in significantly improving the quality of care for our young patient. Considering the worst prognosis of pathologies and the reduced life expectancy of subjects suffering from ASD and ID, known in the literature, in our opinion, the first essential step becomes facilitating access to care for these patients.

Serotonin syndrome (SS) is a toxic state characterized by increased serotonin activity. It has been suggested that severe serotonin syndrome usually involves monoaminoxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).

To quantify in how far severe SS is associated with MAOIs.

Systematic review and quantitative analysis of all SS cases published between 1 January 2004 and 31 December 2014. Severe SS was defined as cases, either requiring intensive care or resulting in death. Cases were included if they met the diagnostic criteria for SS according to at least one of the three diagnostic criteria systems (Hunter, Radomski and Sternbach).

Of the 299 included cases, 118 (39%) met the definition for severe SS. Eight cases had insufficient information to enable severity classification. Of the severe cases, 48 (40%) involved a MAOI. Of these, 67% related to psychiatric MAOIs, such as phenelzine and moclobemide and 33% to a somatic MAOI, such as methylene blue and linezolid. Of the remaining 173 non-severe SS cases, 24 cases (13%) involved a MAOI. In these, 12% related to a psychiatric MAOI and 83% to a somatic MAOI. One case (4%) had a combination of both. The odds ratio for MAOI involvement in severe versus non-severe serotonin syndrome was 4.3 (CI 2.4 – 7.5; p < 0.001).

In the majority of published case reports, drugs other than MAOIs are involved in serotonin syndrome, even in severe cases. MAOIs are, however, more common in severe serotonin syndrome than in non-severe cases.

Health professionals face an increased risk of developing mental health difficulties due to work-related stress. It has been demonstrated that work engagement has a protective role on mental health from work-related stress. The majority of the research on the psychological impact of job stress among health professionals focused on the work-related stressors or the type of stressors as challenges or hindrances. However, the impact might depend on an individual’s appraisal of challenges and hindrances.

- Examine the effects of job appraisals on mental health. - Establish the role of work engagement as a mediator between them.

An online survey was completed by 196 health professionals and included questionnaires about job appraisals, stressors (variety of tasks, responsibility and cooperation with colleagues), work engagement, anxiety and depression.

Appraising stressors as challenges did not have any direct impact on mental health, whereas hindrance appraisals had a negative influence. Participants who appraised cooperation with colleagues as challenging reported lower levels of depression through higher work engagement (B = − 0.17, 95% CI [− 0.354, − 0.027]). Appraising variety of tasks as a hindrance predicted higher levels of depression through lower work engagement (B = 0.150, 95% CI [0.041, 0.289]). Participants appraising the other two stressors as hindrances were more anxious and depressed through lower work engagement.

The negative psychological impact of hindrance appraisals was persistent, whereas the positive impact of challenge appraisals through work engagement depended on the stressor. Stress interventions may need to consider both the type of appraisal and the type of stressor.

Cerebral abscesses are rare, occurring in approximately 0.3–1 per 100 000 patients. Mortality rate still remains as high as 22%. Very few cases of acute psychotic episodes associated with brain abscess have been reported.

To present a case report of a patient with schizofrenia associated with multiple brain abscesses, focusing on clinical features and managing challenges.

Presentation of a clinical case supported by a non-systematic review of literature containing the key-words “brain abscess”, “psychosis” and “schizophrenia”

This is a case report of a male 44-year-old patient with a known history of schizophrenia since the age of 18 and with multiple brain abscesses diagnosed 2 month ago. He was admitted to our inpatient service after discontinuation of her medication resulting in an acute psychotic episode. Antibiotic therapy with rifampicine, metronidazole, trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole was started. Also, administration of clozapine was initiated (up to 400mg/day) with partial improvement, so aripiprazole was added (up to 45 mg/day), with insufficient response. We suspected of a drug interaction between rifampicine (known potent broad inducer of drug-metabolizing enzymes) and antipsychotic medication, so we decided to change aripiprazole to amisulpride 1200 mg/day, which CYP-catalyzed metabolism appears to be minor. A significant improvement in positive symptoms and mood was observed. The patient has since had no delusions or hallucinations and is living independently at home.

This clinical case highlights the possible association between brain abscesses and relapses in schizophrenia. It is of utmost importance to be aware for possible drug interactions between antibiotic therapy and antipsychotic medication.

Traumatic experiences has a key role on the mental health of individuals. Turkish Armed Forces has been involved in various combat in and out of the country over the years. Individuals who are able to find meaning after a negative life events are better overcome their issues and return to their positive functioning. Unhealthy attachment styles has been observed more in clinical samples than healthy attachment styles.

The aim of this study was to investigate the predictive role of attachment styles and meaning in life on psychiatric symptoms among wife of military personel who lost their lifes.

74 women who lost their husband in combat to the study. Their age was between 21 and 74, with the mean of 46.93. 60 (75.9%) participants had a child when they lost their husband. 63 (79.7%) of them hasn’t been married again. Brief Symptom Inventory, Meaning in Life Scale and Relationship Scales Questtionnare were used to collect the data. Five different regression analysis was conducted.

Finding meaning in life, dismissing and preoccupied attachment sytles predicted depression (R2= 51.8%). Finding meaning in life and fearful attachment styles predicted anxiety (R2= 46.2%). Finding meaning in life and fearful attachment styles predicted negative identity (R2= 51.1%). Finding meaning in life and dismissing attachment styles predicted hostility (R2= 50.4%) and somatization (R2= 57%).

Meaning in life has a protective role in the development of any psychopathologies whereas insecure attachment styles are risk factor.

Delirium affects a significant proportion of hospitalized older patients with acute infections. There is growing evidence that delirium accelerates the cognitive decline at long term.

We aimed to determine if delirium during hospitalization was independently associated with cognitive deterioration at one-year.

From a total of 22 patients (12 C, 4 Dem, 2 D, and 4 DD) delirium (D and DD groups) was associated with a worse score in MOCA of 3-points (p<.02) and 2.5-points (p<.03), respectively, at one year, follow up. Dementia patients without delirium had a decrease of 2-point (p=.04) while cognitively healthy patients had a decrease in 1.08 points (p=.05) (Graph1). MOCA and NPI scores during hospitalization correlated significantly with cognitive decline in the four groups (r=.658, p<.01 and r=.439, p=.02, respectively.)

Individuals developing delirium while recovering from infection have higher rates of cognitive decline after one year, but the cognitive decline is also present to a lower extent for individuals with infections that did not develop delirium.
