Journal of Fluid Mechanics is the leading international journal in the field and is essential reading for all those concerned with developments in fluid mechanics. It publishes authoritative articles covering theoretical, computational and experimental investigations of all aspects of the mechanics of fluids. Each issue contains papers on the fundamental aspects of fluid mechanics and its applications to other fields such as aeronautics, astrophysics, biology, chemical and mechanical engineering, hydraulics, materials, meteorology, oceanography, geology, acoustics and combustion.
To be within the scope of JFM, a paper must present fully developed and supported primary original research with significant fluid mechanical insight, substantially advancing understanding. Every JFM paper is expected to have a clear conclusion that spells out the significant contributions made to the advancement of fluid-mechanical understanding. A paper is only accepted for publication in JFM after careful and thorough review identifying that it is of the highest standard in terms of scientific content and clarity of exposition.
Papers submitted for publication can be one of two types; JFM Papers* or JFM Rapids*. All submissions are initially assessed for quality and suitability and thereafter single anonymous peer review if suitable. In addition, JFM publishes Focus on Fluids and Perspectives* by invitation only.
* If publishing Gold Open Access, all or part of the publication costs for these article types may be covered by one of the agreements Cambridge University Press has made to support open access.
