An important question in the study of moment problems is to determine when a fixed point in ℝn lies in the moment cone of vectors , with μ a nonnegative measure. In associated optimization problems it is also important to be able to distinguish between the interior and boundary of the moment cone. Recent work of Dachuna-Castelle, Gamboa and Gassiat derived elegant computational characterizations for these problems, and for related questions with an upper bound on μ. Their technique involves a probabilistic interpretation and large deviations theory. In this paper a purely convex analytic approach is used, giving a more direct understanding of the underlying duality, and allowing the relaxation of their assumptions.

The cohomology algebra mod $p$ of the complex projective Stiefel manifolds is determined for all primes $p$. When $p=2$ we also determine the action of the Steenrod algebra and apply this to the problem of existence of trivial subbundles of multiples of the canonical line bundle over a lens space with 2-torsion, obtaining optimal results in many cases.

Given an almost arbitrary holomorphic map we study the structure of the associated residue integral and its Mellin transform, and the relation between these two objects. More precisely, we relate the limit behaviour of the residue integral to the polar structure of the Mellin transform. We consider also ideals connected to nonisolated singularities.

We classify and analyze the orbits of the Kepler problem on surfaces of constant curvature (both positive and negative, ${{\mathbb{S}}^{2}}$ and ${{\mathbb{H}}^{2}}$, respectively) as functions of the angular momentum and the energy. Hill's regions are characterized, and the problem of time-collision is studied. We also regularize the problem in Cartesian and intrinsic coordinates, depending on the constant angular momentum, and we describe the orbits of the regularized vector field. The phase portraits both for ${{\mathbb{S}}^{2}}$ and ${{\mathbb{H}}^{2}}$ are pointed out.

Lattices and $\mathbb{Z}$-modules in Euclidean space possess an infinitude of subsets that are images of the original set under similarity transformation. We classify such self-similar images according to their indices for certain $4D$ examples that are related to $4D$ root systems, both crystallographic and non-crystallographic. We encapsulate their statistics in terms of Dirichlet series generating functions and derive some of their asymptotic properties.

A set of points M of a graph G is a point cover if each line of G is incident with at least one point of M. A minimum cover (abbreviated m.c.) for G is a point cover with a minimum number of points. The point covering number α(G) is the number of points in any minimum cover of G. Let [V1, V2, … , Vr], r > 1 be a partition of V(G), the set of points of G. Our aim in this paper, generally stated, is to formulate an abstract concept of the notion of the sum of a numerical series. More particularly, it is a study of the type of sequence space called “sum space”. The idea of sum space arose in connection with two distinct problems.

1.1 The Köthe-Toeplitz dual of a sequence space T consists of all sequences t such that st ∈ l1 (absolutely summable sequences) for each s∈T. It is known that if cs or bs is used in place of l1, an analogous theory of duality for sequence spaces can be developed (cf. [2]). What other spaces of sequences can play a rôle analogous to l1? This problem is treated in [6].

The purpose of this paper is to introduce the notion of a CW complex over a topological category. The main theorem of this paper gives an equivalence between the homotopy theory of diagrams of spaces based on a topological category and the homotopy theory of CW complexes over the same base category.

A brief description of the paper goes as follows: in Section 1 we introduce the homotopy category of diagrams of spaces based on a fixed topological category. In Section 2 homotopy groups for diagrams are defined. These are used to define the concept of weak equivalence and J-n equivalence that generalize the classical definition. In Section 3 we adapt the classical theory of CW complexes to develop a cellular theory for diagrams. In Section 4 we use sheaf theory to define a reasonable cohomology theory of diagrams and compare it to previously defined theories. In Section 5 we define a closed model category structure for the homotopy theory of diagrams. We show this Quillen type homotopy theory is equivalent to the homotopy theory of J-CW complexes. In Section 6 we apply our constructions and results to prove a useful result in equivariant homotopy theory originally proved by Elmendorf by a different method.

A geometric characterization is given for a collection of points in ℝd to produce a singular l1 -distance matrix. Some quantitative results are established in terms of "characteristic matrices". The results in this paper generalize those of Dyn, Light and Cheney and have application to ridge function interpolation.

In this paper, we shall give a method in constructing dihedral Galois covering with prescribed branch locus. As an application, we shall look into dihedral Galois covering of P2, where torsion elements of the Mordell-Weil group of an elliptic surface play key roles in constructing coverings

The classical Hankel transform of a conventional function ϕ on (0, ∞) defined formally by

was extended by Zemanian [21-23] to certain generalized functions of one dimension. Koh [9, 10] extended the work of [21] to n-dimensions, and that of [22] to arbitrary real values of μ. Motivated from the work of Gelfand and Shilov [6], Lee [11] introduced spaces of type Hμ and studied their Hankel transforms. The results of Lee [11] and Zemanian [21] are special cases of recent results obtained by the author and Pandey [14]. The aforesaid extensions are accomplished by using the so-called adjoint method of extending integral transforms to generalized functions. Dube and Pandey [2], Pathak and Pandey [15, 16] applied a more direct method, the so-called kernel method, for extending the Hankel and other related transforms.

This paper is a report on work in progress rather than a description of theorems which have attained their final form. The results I shall describe are part of an attempt to continue to higher dimensions the study of the relation between the Hasse-Weil zeta-functions of Shimura varieties and the Euler products associated to automorphic forms, which was initiated by Eichler, and extensively developed by Shimura for the varieties of dimension one bearing his name. The method used has its origins in an idea of Sato, which was exploited by Ihara for the Shimura varieties associated to GL(2).

Associated with every $2n\times 2n$ real positive definite matrix $A,$ there exist n positive numbers called the symplectic eigenvalues of $A,$ and a basis of $\mathbb {R}^{2n}$ called the symplectic eigenbasis of A corresponding to these numbers. In this paper, we discuss differentiability and analyticity of the symplectic eigenvalues and corresponding symplectic eigenbasis and compute their derivatives. We then derive an analogue of Lidskii’s theorem for symplectic eigenvalues as an application.

Much work has been done on the subject of representing groups as groups of automorphisms of graphs (i.e., given a group G, to find a graph X such that the group of automorphisms of X is isomorphic to G). Recently, this was related to category theory, the main question being as to whether every monoid (i.e., semigroup with 1) can be represented as the monoid of endomorphisms of some graph in a given category of graphs.
